“not bad, but...”

We stayed there for 4 nights. Breakfast was terrible, the worst i 've ever seen in hotels. We were not treat well as a group.Very bad area, not safe, they arrested people in front of our eyes. The room was noisy, dogs from the opposite house barking all the time. It seemed clean but i am non sure for that. The room was ok, big enough. But i did't like the hotel. The only goog thing is the shuttle bus, free of charge, taking you to the beach and the marvellous shoreline village.

“Nice hotel, but in a not so nice area of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We spent one night at the Holiday Inn in Long Beach, CA on New Year's Eve. We had tickets to the Queen Mary but did not want to pay the high price to stay there. This hotel actually had a New Year's Eve package where we received a bottle of Champagne at check-in, free dinner in their small restaurant, and complimentary late check out. Once inside the hotel you feel safe, but outside watch out. The hotel claims to be in downtown area of Long Beach which may be so, but it is not the nice part of downtown you think of when you arrive. There was a complmentary shuttle to the Queen Mary from the hotel which was nice as it saved us money on parking, but unfortunatley they did not run the shuttle late, even on New Year's Eve, so we had to pay for a cab to get back. It you are looking for an place to stay with a nice bed this is it. I give the hotel a four star becuase there was nothing wrong with it except for the actual location.

“4 Star Holiday Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

It's has been a while since I've stayed at any Holiday Inn. Why did I select this Holiday Inn? After calling the Westin and learning their nightly rate had gone up $89.00 per night since I stayed there four weeks before, I searched with my iPhone. The Holiday Inn was close to my location, price around $100.00 per night, rooms available so I checked in. Restaurant was under an upgrade/deep cleaning???? That's why the 4 stars. The service from Rena the desk manager was excellent as was the room, parking, and maid service. Stayed two nights and would recommend it to anyone looking for a safe, clean, service oriented environment.

Room Tip: There is some construction going on somewhere on property. Perhaps it means you should ask for an u...

“Hotel nice, Neighborhood Marginal, Good business hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

First stay here for business. If you are working in the port of LA and are a IHG member, it’s a good place to stay. If you are coming to Long Beach area for pleasure, just remember this is a good place to sleep, but the neighborhood best explored only during the daytime.

The staff is great, and very helpful. At this stay there was a very disturbed young man in the lobby that was very frightened. He was not a guest, but the staff let him use the phone to call the police, and was very apologetic to me for the disruption during my check in process. Frankly the guy was very scared and I felt sorry for him. As a safety note, the police were there in less hen 5 minutes to speak with him.

The rooms are nice and recently remodeled. Large TV, nice beds, clean linens. Parking amble and free. If you need something there are several local small stores and a radio shack that are easily accessed during the day. They have a 24 hour shuttle and it appeared it was easily scheduled.

I will stay here again when I am working in Long Beach.

Room Tip: Room on the rear of the hotel will be quieter.

“Noisy neighbors”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We recently visited Long Beach for the first time, I had originally booked rooms at the Holiday Inn Airport but thinking that it may be a bit noisy changed to the downtown location. I didn't realize how small the airport is so the noise level probably wouldn't have been a big deal; however, it was at the downtown location. This hotel backs up to a neighborhood, which is the side our room was on. Every night we heard dogs barking and not just occasionally. We couldn't figure out who had the dogs but it sounded as though someone had a few little dogs who were allowed to bark continually. In addition, one of the nights there was a party at one of the homes so we were "treated" to music until after midnight. I don't know if the rooms on the other side facing the street are better because my son did not want to hassle with asking for a different room.

Another problem we encountered was when we asked for a roll-away bed and were told that we couldn't have one in our room. I assumed it was due to the size of the room. So between having to share a bed with my grandson who moves constantly while sleeping and listening to the dogs and/or music, this wasn't the most restful stay I've had at a Holiday Inn.

The room looked good but there were cobwebs and my son said the cutout on his headboard looked as though it hadn't been dusted in quite some time. Something had been spilled on the carpet and left to dry without being cleaned so it was stiff and gross.

The staff was pleasant enough and we had a really tasty meal in the restaurant on site. By the way, this restaurant has a coupon available through Restaurant.com.
