“Nice hotel in a convenient area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Was here for 5 nights over the Christmas Holiday. It was convenient to the harbor, shopping, restaurants and a grocery store. The area felt safe as we walked after dark. The Christmas decorations were just right, not overyly done.

There was a restaurant onsite, which we did not eat at and a starbucks on site that we got coffee at every morning. Cookies were served in the evening.

My only complaint with the room was that the refrigerator was too small for that long of a stay. Otherwise, the beds and pillows were perfect. Stayed on the 6th floor and had a balcony overlooking a parking garage.

The staff was wonderful. Some of the best most helpful desk attendants EVER! Maps and directions were so useful. 2 computers and printers were available in the lobby and free wifi for in room laptop usage.

“Nice enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

I've stayed in much nicer Courtyards and way better Marriotts. It was "nice enough" but I was not impressed at all. The hallway from the lobby to the restaurant smelled like urine. Yes, urine. They need to change that carpet or something. Nothing was new and the whole hotel seemed tired and long overdue for a reno. The elevator was out-of-service half the time so I was forced to take the dirty and creepy stairwell. I travelled alone (for business) and I didn't feel safe taking walks. I was approached by several homeless men talking to themselves, which was unsettling. Then came to the lobby one night after a long day of work to find the same in the lobby (one person, not several). I did not feel safe. I would only stay there again if I had to. And if the stay had come out of my own pocket I would not have been happy - at all! The only two things that were good: the very helpful and courteous staff (including the restaurant) and the breakfast. Those two things were the only saving-grace of my stay. The staff was great and they even greeted me daily/nightly by name. Sweet.

“A Great Alternative to the Expensive Hotels a Block Away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

My coworker and I stayed three nights here during a business trip. Our check in was quick and the desk staff very friendly, but professional. Our room was what I had asked for- top floor, quiet room. The view was of the US Bank building, but for half the cost of the big name hotels a block away, that was perfectly fine with me. The room was clean and tidy and had a little fridge which is always appreciated. They do have a parking garage for $10 a night which also was well worth the money. I'd very much recommend this hotel for any travel.

Room Tip: Being a light sleeper, I always ask for a top floor for the quiet factor.

“Good Option for Convention Center”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

I was at a conference being held at the Long Beach Convention Center. The "convention hotels" were sold out, so I investigated other hotel options. Not only was Courtyard by Marriott as close as one of the conference hotels, it was significantly cheaper! I was comfortable walking back and forth to the convention center by myself, even after dark. I got a great rate, and everything at the hotel was satisfactory.
The room was clean, except for the bath tub being a bit stained (but not dirty, per se). Rooms are updated, even though it is obvious that the building itself is older.
The front desk staff were nice, welcoming me each time I entered the building, and asking if I needed any guidance when I was headed out. There is a small snack bar to purchase chips, sodas, or even wine and beer. There is also a refrigerator in the room.
Parking charges are $10 each night, and don't forget to budget in city taxes, which are all standard for a downtown location.

“Not a 3 Star Hotel!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

I had to switch rooms. Both rooms were dingy, carpet dirty, with old worn-out furniture. Bathroom was small and dingy. Elevators were EXTREMELY slow. A group of college students were staying for a conference and were very loud and their presence made the elevators even slower! The walls were too thin, so their noise could be heard several doors down from one of their parties/gatherings. It was not a pleasant stay at all. I would not recommend this hotel for business travelers.
