The appearance of the hotel was fine. Our king suite was large and clean. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast area was in a very small room in the very front of the hotel. It is difficult to move around if others are sitting down. They have large conference room so it makes little sense to have everyone jammed into such a small space. The neighborhood was not the greatest but it would be fine if you were just staying overnight before a cruise.
My problem wasn't with the property itself but with the guests that were allowed to stay there. When we pulled up to the hotel, we were greeted by a group of men that can only be described as thugs. As we walked past, we had to endure their lewd comments. We felt uneasy but decided that we would just stay in our room for the rest of the night. Everything was fine until 3:00am when they all came back after a night of partying. From the halls, they shouted obscenities to each other as well as slamming doors.
In the morning, I spoke with the front desk about our experience and was told that they were a group of oil drillers and many would be checking out that day. Their behavior in the lobby and front of the hotel was appalling. They had no respect for any other guests. Their language and conversations were lewd and offensive. We had decided to enjoy our breakfast out by the pool but were unable to even get near the entrance to the pool because their vehicles were parked blocking access to the pool.
I had to complain to the front desk on our second evening after being hassled again while walking back into the hotel. While waiting for my roommate to open the door after forgetting my key, the man across the hall opened his door wearing only his boxer shorts. Even after he realized I wasn't knocking on his door, he continued to try and make small talk with me about my plans for the rest of the day.
The management needs to work harder at making sure all their guests feel safe and have a pleasant experience. And they need to remove those guests whose behavior creates an unsafe environment
