The room was large and clean, the bed large and firm, the staff friendly and helpful. Beyond that, the experience went downhill: breakfast, raved about by some, was plentiful but mediocre at best. Steam table eggs and hashbrowns were warm but wet and/or mushy. Bacon and sausage, crisp on the one hand, soft on the other. The TV was standard definition, not what you expect at a Best Western. More important, it was placed so that it was difficult for two to watch from bed and impossible to watch from the sofa. AC typically loud.

There are plenty of restaurants in the area but it's a 15 minute drive to downtown Long Beach.

Overall, I wouldn't return or recommend it to a couple, like us, traveling for pleasure and staying 4 nights.

First and foremost, I chose Best Western Golden Sails because of its location and price. I booked this place since I was going to the Aquarium of the Pacific the next day. Upon arrival we were greeted immediately. All the requests I wanted were granted. So that's always a good sign.

Upon entering the room I was surprised to see how huge the room is! For a two queen bed room they probably could have added another bed (or two). It was clean and all the amenities were there. I especially like the double sinks. What I didn't like was that my bed was a little uncomfortable (had a little slant to it as if someone slept on one side a lot). I also didn't like that there was no desk chair. They had an upholstered chair instead, which you can use.

I rated this hotel 4 out of 5 because of it's exceptional service, cleanliness, and the price. The drive to the aquarium was about 10-15 minutes but I didn't care as the drive was quite good - seeing what the City of Long Beach has to offer.

The internet connection was decent and I was surprised that this Best Western offered room service until 9 p.m. The food/menu prices were very reasonable. I would have ordered room service if it were not for the free breakfast voucher they gave. Breakfast was awesome! It had all the breakfast items one needs - eggs, bacon, french toast, make your own waffle, bread, oatmeal, fruits, yogurt, potatoes. The staff at the restaurant were good too.

So it was a pleasant surprise - I would definitely come back again.

This motel was more out of the way than it looked on the map from downtown attractions but it made up for the short drive with excellent food, modest yet very clean and nicely decorated room, great staff, room service, clean grounds and a great price. We would stay there again!

Good hotel, good breakfast, convenient to CSULB. Would be a good place to stay if it were secure. The staff stole my wifes cash while we ate breakfast. She left her purse in our room (educated now)feeling safe, there was housekeeping and maintenance staff outside the room when we left, didn't discover we were broke until we got to Solvang to buy something. We would stay there several times a year except for this important lesson.
