“Typical motel 6 - you get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

Typical motel 6 - cheap, clean, no frills. I stayed because it is adjacent to LBSU, is cheap and my wife wasn't along. Good bed, thin towels, old tv. Better value than that Best Western down the street. OK hotel if you don't plan on spending much time in your room. Ran wall cooler all night to drown out street noise - at very busy intersection.

Please note that there are two (2) Motel 6 properties in Long Beach. This one is located next to the VA Hospital, CSULB, Ralph's, CVS, gas station, Jack In The Box. It is further from the "tourist" areas of Long Beach, but much closer to Belmont Shores, Mothers Beach and 2nd Street. It is a small property, but well maintained and in a great location!!! There are no bars on windows or scary neighbors.

“Motel 6 Long Beach 7th Ave”

There are two Motel 6 locations in Long Beach and we opted for this one due to several reviews on this site and others that complained about the bad neighborhood that the other location was in. This was a standard Motel 6 but note that prices were elevated due to a weekend stay, which is a real bummer. $85 for one night, two adults in a non smoking room with one queen bed. That's the cheapest I found in Long Beach for one Saturday night, since we were doing brunch at the Queen Mary on Sunday. The room was fine, generally seemed clean, the locks on the door and window were secure. I'd requested a quiet room, and they put us upstairs in the back of the property which was probably as good as it was going to get since the motel is on a busy street. There was some noise from the traffic but nothing that kept us awake. Air conditioning worked fine, which was good since it was unseasonably warm for February. One big drawback about this place is that the location makes it very difficult to access if you are traveling southbound on 7th, which most people will be since they will be coming from downtown Long Beach (convention center, Aquarium, Queen Mary.) You cannot turn left into the driveway, so you are forced to travel approx. 4 blocks down to make a u-turn, to come back and make a right into the very narrow driveway. That may not sound too bad but the traffic on this street is very heavy and getting in and out is an annoying challenge. Otherwise, the stay was okay, what one would expect from Motel 6 but unfortunately pricey due to the date of our stay and the area. Also note that this isn't super close to all the tourist attractions; approx 5 miles away from most, so be aware that walking anywhere isn't really an option. However, I wasn't able to find a motel/hotel closer to the city center that was under $100.

  • Liked — Price was the best in a pretty expensive area
  • Disliked — Bad access from the street into the parking lot

“Scary Neighborhood, Not recommended”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2006

Some of the problems with this hotel are no fault of the owners, but are of the major concerns with this place. Motel 6 Long Beach CA is in a rough area of Long Beach where there are steel bars across many business windows. There were what appears to be rough characters walking the streets and also around the hotel premises. If you are accustomed to that environment maybe that wouldn't bother you.
A group of people in the next door room had a half night party, and left the TV on all night.
My room's extra locking mechanism (the metal part that swings shut so you can open the door an inch or so)was broken off. The owner explained that the metal was probably old, but judging from this neighborhood, I wondered if at some point someone had broken in to a room on purpose. The owner kindly attempted to repair the lock at 9PM, but couldn't. He still charged me full price for the room, which I am not pleased with. I guess you can ask yourself what you can expect for $71. I had arrived after the 6pm cutoff for room cancellation, otherwise would have cancelled after seeing this neighborhood. To the owner's credit, the parking lot is well lit and secured with cameras, but that did not stop me from bringing all of my luggage into the room. From my interactions with him, I do not think the owner is a bad person. But that alone does not make this a good place to stay.
After walking around in the room for awhile, our white socks became dirty.

“Not worth $30.00”

I stayed here on one occassion. What a hideous place. I could not dial out, no shower curtain, ( of course when I showered watered went everywhere...and I left it for them to deal with.) and defintiely not clean. And sometimes they have the nerve to charged in the $60's. Front desk person a looser.
They could care less. They may have remodeled the rooms a few years ago but, but the place is well worn now....dirty...dirty...dirty.
Use only if you're desparate.
