Some of the problems with this hotel are no fault of the owners, but are of the major concerns with this place. Motel 6 Long Beach CA is in a rough area of Long Beach where there are steel bars across many business windows. There were what appears to be rough characters walking the streets and also around the hotel premises. If you are accustomed to that environment maybe that wouldn't bother you.
A group of people in the next door room had a half night party, and left the TV on all night.
My room's extra locking mechanism (the metal part that swings shut so you can open the door an inch or so)was broken off. The owner explained that the metal was probably old, but judging from this neighborhood, I wondered if at some point someone had broken in to a room on purpose. The owner kindly attempted to repair the lock at 9PM, but couldn't. He still charged me full price for the room, which I am not pleased with. I guess you can ask yourself what you can expect for $71. I had arrived after the 6pm cutoff for room cancellation, otherwise would have cancelled after seeing this neighborhood. To the owner's credit, the parking lot is well lit and secured with cameras, but that did not stop me from bringing all of my luggage into the room. From my interactions with him, I do not think the owner is a bad person. But that alone does not make this a good place to stay.
After walking around in the room for awhile, our white socks became dirty.
