Modern Hyatt hotel. Great VIVE! Friendly staff, walk to all restaurants and attractions. Also near convention center

Stayed at Avia for four nights in December as we wanted to be close to cruise terminal for our upcoming cruise. Room was smallish but had everything and was clean. Staff very good and friendly. Had noisy neighbours who wanted to listen to loud music late one night. A call to night manager on reception had a prompt "I'll deal with it right away madam" and he did. We would stay here again as it is a nice, friendly small hotel in a safe area. Great being able to brew fresh coffee in the morning and room service breakfast was good. Downside is location if you want to see LA or visit Disneyland or Universal as they are just too far away and expensive to travel to. We took metro, blue line, one day into LA and passed through some rough areas with scary people getting on train, so avoid that at all costs. We opted for a cab back to Long Beach at about $95 but arrived back alive and intact! Despite its location, which suited us catching our cruise, the Avia is a lovely small hotel with nice staff. They try very hard and it shows.

My wife and I stayed here for a week - the 1st part of the trip was business for me, 2nd part pleasure. The entire staff is very friendly and accomodating. The bar downstairs is very cozy with enough room for a big group or small private areas for a more intimate setting. Breakfast was execellent. Restaurant is only open at night on certain nights - but the food is very good. Everythign is within walking distance that you would ever need. They even helped us rent a car and let us drop it at their garage and leave the keys at the front desk for pickup by the rental company the next day.

We stayed here just one night to attend a private New Year's Eve party at the Aquarium of the Pacific. We held a block of rooms, all at $179. We had a small suite which was very nice. We did not have a view which is a priority for us but it was only one night. So, a view of the air conditioners or into the rooms across the courtyard was not problem with the curtains closed. The room is small but efficient with desk space, t.v. that swings for viewing from the bed or the couch, and a nice bathroom with huge shower space.

The bed was one of the most comfortable beds ever. Almost as good as home. The sheets and pillows were heavenly. Big points.

And, amazingly, the food was really good. We had a martini and small plates with friends before the party. The martini was great served in the perfect martini glass. And the apps were excellent and well priced. In the morning we had breakfast in the dining room and, again, were quite surprised by the quality and price of the food.

The staff was friendly and accommodating. Beware, though, as we were leaving the police were writing a report for a woman's stolen-from-the-room cell phone. Of course I asked "why didn't you use the safe?"

The location is excellent. We are locals but this would be a great place to explore Long Beach and the surrounding areas! Oh, and the roof top pool is beautiful!
