I stayed at the Beach Plaza Hotel (which is more like a motel) with a friend (we are both 25 years old) for four nights and would stay again. We booked a package through Expedia, and chose this hotel because of the stairs that lead down to the beach and the cheapness. There is free parking, which is also a plus. One night when we got back, all the spots were taken, but the manager had us park in one of the front employee spots.
The City Beach in Long Beach is not good for swimming because of the garbage and debris on the beach, so if swimming in the ocean is the reason you're chosing this hotel, think again.
Our room was nice. The sheets on our beds came off easily, but I toss and turn a lot in my sleep so that may be my fault.
The shower head could use some serious CLR love, because the water sprayed in all sorts of crazy directions, but the shower temp was good and the pressure was decent. The towels were a bit rough, but they give you plenty. There was a table and two chairs in our room, and both of the chairs were a bit wobbly. The steam from a long shower I took also set off the smoke alarm, so from then on I made sure to keep a window open.
There wasn't much lighting, so doing my makeup was a crapshoot and I always had to go to a window to make sure I looked ok. Another quirky thing is that our key didn't always work. We usually got our door to open on the second try, but sometimes we had to give it 6 or 7.
There is a nice looking pool that we didn't use, and guest laundry with one washer and dryer. The place was quiet and there were lounge chairs at the back of the parking lot on two patios for sitting and chilling. They absolutely do not tolerate partying but were totally cool with letting my friend and I take a couple six packs back to the chairs to drink and relax.
The breakfast was a tray of packaged pastries, which was nice to snack on before heading out for the day.
All in all, it was a nice place to stay if you're not too concerned with it being the Hilton.
