Stayed here for two nights in the Kent Room in December 2011 and overall had a very disappointing experience. They are supposedly a AAA four diamond resort, well, going by the room I stayed in, I really wonder how they conned their way into getting that one. The room was run down and shabbily maintained (see pictures for details) in contrast to all the boastful claims made in the hotel binder.
CONS
1) The bed was supposedly a Tempur-Pedic "Dream Bed" covered with 1000 count Egyptian cotton sheets (see pic). Reality - the bed was terribly uncomfortable and to add insult to injury - the sheets had holes and were threadbare. The sheets were not changed during our stay and smelt funny so am not sure they were changed at all (so gross). Maybe they're trying not to wash the sheets in the hopes they can hang on to their investment for another 10 years.
2) The bathroom was so disgusting that I chose to not bathe at all. The bath mat was torn (see picture) and had bunches of hair from previous guests. The faucet was rusted and the bathroom had major water damage. Was scared to even touch the towels - if they don't wash the sheets pretty sure that rule applies to the towels as well.
3) The room was overall very shabbily maintained. The drapes were faded, crushed and had paint marks on them as did most of the room fixtures. May be the owners decided to do the job themselves, another cost saving move.
4) Horribly outdated blinds that one had to wrestle with in order to enjoy the view.
5) Breakfast includes very slim choices and if you have some sort of diet restrictions, well, your on your own. Even small motels do a better job and their breakfast IS ACTUALLY FREE.
6) They charge you a $50 resort fee per person but best of luck trying to use their facilities. The outdoor spa had a layer of dirt at the bottom and the workout equipment was worn out and dirty.
7) Rude "Notices" posted all over the room telling you how much things cost or what not to do(in other words they're trying to convince you how high-end they are).
8) Cost saving measures obvious and visible all around.
9) The size of their TV was ridiculous, smaller than my desktop monitor at home.
10) The salles pitch is constant from dinner at their restaurant to spa services to the price tags on most items in the room.
PROS
1) The "resort" is located in Van Damme State Park and the views from the large picture windows are amazing.
2) As many reviewers have mentioned the breakfast tasted good but is hard to digest when you realize that it's not actually free (you are told it costs $25 pp and are expected to tip on that amount).
3) Free wireless internet.
AAA, you need to seriously look at your rating system because from the standards at Stevenswood it seems like a total joke. Do not waste your money, these guys are running a total scam. Very poor value for money and overall an unpleasant experience. Should may be rename themselves Stevenswood Motel.
