The hotel is lovely, with an excellent location right on the sand. Our room had a full-on ocean front view, with the waves crashing outside our window. The staff is very friendly, warm and welcoming, and I have no qualms about our room or the staff.

Unfortunately, I have recently become allergic to pets, and am quickly learning that I will have to change some things in life - one thing to change is to inquire with a hotel BEFORE staying there whether they allow pets to stay in the guest rooms, although it would be helpful if hotels noted these things on their websites.

After spending one night there for what was supposed to be a romantic getaway, I suffered greatly with red, itching, burning, watery eyes. Upon speaking with a staff member, I was surprised to learn that they do not allocate certain rooms or floors as being pet friendly - which makes it difficult, for those of us with allergies, to make a room choice. I also felt they treated me more as a nuisance rather than someone who had spent a very uncomfortable night at their five star luxury hotel. It's a shame because next time we will likely look elsewhere for accommodations that are not pet friendly, or at least choose a property that has a policy on how rooms are handled for guests with pets and guests without pets.

We recently stayed at the Surf & Sand in Laguna Beach, California. This property is first class all the way around. The entire staff couldn't be more pleasing and helpful and our room and views were beyond our highest expectations. Treat yourself to a stay ~ you will leave with wonderful memories..............

I recently stayed 3-nights at the Surf and Sand for a business meeting. Overall, I was pleased with the hotel, staff, amenities, and the view -- boy, the view is fantastic! Every room seems to have an ocean view and small private balcony where you can watch the sunset and listen to the waves crashing on shore. Those waves, by the way, are almost literally right under your balcony when the tide is all the way in. The room was clean and well appointed, with a comfortable bed, large bathroom (with separate shower and tub), and ample closet space. My only gripe was that there was no air conditioning in the rooms. I was there during a warm spell in mid-January and it can get REALLY warm in those rooms when the afternoon sun is beating down. The only way to cool the room down is to open the sliding door to the balcony, but that doesn't really help when you're also trying to sleep. I'm was there by myself and am not comfortable leaving a door like that open at night, plus the waves are pretty loud at night (the hotel even provides earplugs for this reason). I know that air conditioning isn't always necessary but you would think that a hotel that charges nearly $300 a night would also offer that luxury. I loved the hotel otherwise, but don't know if I would stay there again.

My husband and I stayed here last week for a week for 7 night. This is the second time we have stayed at the Surf an Sand and enjoy everything about it! The king oceanfront rooms are beautiful, are decorated in pleasant sand, cream and sea green colors and are hanging right out over the beach! The roar of the ocean is so loud that unless you like the sound of crashing waves you may find it too loud! Not us, that is why we go to the beach! Also the deck off of your room is nicely furnished with comfortable attractive furniture. Another plus is the complimentary coffee in the downstairs coffee shop or lobby, so no need for a coffeemaker in your room. The staff couldn't be friendlier and of course there is no shortage of things to do in Laguna Beach and the surrounding area.
