My husband and I first stayed at the Laguna RIviera back in 1985. Very funky place at that time..but suited our needs. Over the past few years we have stayed 3 times, Rooms 406, 511 and 101. I would recommend all of them with maybe the exception of 406. The hotel recently remodeled and room 511 was beautifully done. Room 101 was very private and was also very nice. I will be staying again in February...this time I have chosen Room 203. I am sure my stay will be just as nice. The beach is just steps away and it is a nice walk to the Main Beach shopping and restaurants. Also a plus is that the hotel does not charge parking. P.S Glad to hear the gal at the front desk is no longer there...she was a bit brusk! While I would love to stay at the Surf and Sand...for my money...Laguna Riviera is a great choice! Thanks

This interesting property sits overlooking a beautiful sand beach and has tremendous ocean views. A pleasant zigzag garden path leads right to the beach.

That's why you would stay here. Our room inside (#508) was nothing special - a large room with a foldout bed and sofabed; noisy heater-air conditioner; fireplace did not seem to work; fairly standard furniture although the sofa was very comfortable. Good bath facilities and amenities. But it has a private deck right over the ocean with a fantastic view and plastic lounge chairs.

Small garden areas on the slopes have flowers, grass and palm trees.

Outdoor hallway areas in the hotel have colorful painted murals, completing the impression of a true beach hotel.

Well,, the pics looked great on the website and we booked room 409 where we are staying right now. The "resort" looks like a glorified motel, renovated, but still distinctly motel ambiance. Our room overlooked a a dirty roof, complete with a dirty rag, champagne cork, broken plastic fork and a general shabbiness that completely interfered with the legitimitely lovely view of the. The "private deck" is nothing more than painted lattice that "separates" one balcony from the next, making us very vulnerable to the cell phone gabbing upper neighbor's conversation. We asked to see another room which had no private deck, and was so close to a communal deck that any noisy neighbor or late night revelers would have truly created a sleepless night. The carpeting between rooms on the outside of the room was shabby and a tripping hazard. The young male staff was aloof and unconcerned but gave us a whopping 10

We stayed in the beach bungalow last June. It was amazing. For less than the price of two hotel rooms at other places, you had a full, three bedroom cottage, right on the water in the center of town - walking distance to everything. Now, if you insist on marble and high end fixtures, you might be disappointed. But this is just like a family beach home. Everything you need is there. Views are incredible, and you have a sense of privacy right in the center of town. It is very comfortable. The staff is great - Alex at the front desk was so helpful. Our three tennagers loved it. The only thing is, if you have a rentl car, get a small one, because getting into the private garage is a bit tight. We would definitely choose the cottage on a return to Laguna Beach.
