I lived in Laguna Beach for 10 years so I know the micros and macros of the area. When I return now for visits I only stay in one place, Art Hotel. The owner is your pal, even the first visit, the rooms are spotless and sunny, the under building parking is easy and the rates fairly reflect that the hotel is not in the midst of the downtown, though to me that is an advantage since the cove beaches nearby are the best in Laguna to my taste, small tucks of sand between rocky cliffs. the hotel is on Pacific Coast Highway which I would have said eliminates it from contention but in fact never has bothered me. This is a no brainer choice given the very high rates for rooms elsewhere, with no real bottom line advantages.
Room Tip: the rooms at the back of the complex.
