“Great, cozy hotel with wonderful hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

I stayed here with my family back in April of 2007 and it was a great stay. The hosts and proprietors are welcoming and warm. The dog, Finnegan, is a great addition to this charming place.

Our room was large - two bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom. It was comfortable, had a slight ocean view, and spectacular mountain vistas.

Food was great as well - breakfasts of toast and nutella (or just anything with nutella) was fantastic and a great start to the day. We sat outside in the beautiful weather on the nice patio.

The location is also great - it's a few blocks from the beach in a quiet, residential Laguna Beach neighborhood. It's a friendly, beautiful area, but you can drive a few minutes or walk a few minutes and be at stores, the beach, the mountains, and any restaurant you desire in the area.

I recommend this hotel to families, as it has large family-style accommodations (but with character - nothing bland about this place). I'm usually someone who yearns for extreme luxury accommodations wherever I go - but on this vacation I realized that if I were to ever to return to Laguna Beach (which I hope to do soon) I would stay at the Carriage House over anything else. It's a great value and a great place in a wonderful city.

Room Tip: All the rooms are large (some one bedrooms, some two). A few have sea views over rooftops.

We stayed at The Carriage House for 2 nights as part of our trip to California & Arizona. Lesley & Andy were fantastic hosts and the suite was well equipped, close to a beautiful beach and to the free shuttle service. Breakfast was simple - a refreshing change to pancakes! We were offered the use of beach umbrellas and body boards to make our trip to tge beach more enjoyable - nothing was too much trouble!

“we LOVE this B&B, most peaceful friendly place in Orange County”

This is a great B&B, my wife and I have spent a few anniversarries and long getaway weekends here, its a special place. The old colonial style building is shaded in lush trees and plants. Far enough away from the beach to be quiet, close enough to walk there and enjoy a day on the ocean. This building was apparently once an apartment building many years ago which has been converted into a B&B.

The hosts are very friendly, the morning breakfast is a a bit more than traditional European style continental. We've stayed in the "Green Palms" suite and "Home Sweet Home" suites. Both had full kitchens. Both felt like home away from home. It's nice to relax in the courtyeard having snacks and beverages with the sound of water dribbling in the fountain. When stay at Carriage house, it's all about a day at the coves and beaches of Laguna [Heisler Park is a favorite] visit one of the art festivals, maybe dinner at Las Brisas or another local restaurant, then relax at our suite in the evening, maybe play a board game? It's peaceful and relaxing.

The Green Palms" suite has a tropical feel to it, [it's my favorite suite] "The Home Sweet Home" suite is great for families with kids, we stayed here when daughter was younger, it's like visiting grandmas house, quilts, antique decor, etc.

We have many fond memories of Carriage House, it's not fancy, it's not modern, it's a B&B with more living space than most Bed & Breakfasts. I hihly recommend it to anyone who wants a nice place to relax and enjoy living.

Room Tip: I recommend the Green Palms suite, with full kitcn

“Gracious Stay!”

My son, daughter and I took a trip to California to visit some relatives in San Diego and made a side trip to Laguna Beach. We found the Carriage house listed in a travel guide book on California taken out from our local library. The Carriage House is located an easy two blocks above the beach which is one of the nicest beaches I've ever seen. Leslie and Andy are the owners and have a labradoodle named Finn who is a gentle giant. We booked their two bedroom suite which had a kitchen and living room which was very nice and spacious. They were very accomodating about letting us keep our car in front of the B&B til mid afternoon the day of our departure which was really nice as parking is atrocious in Laguna Beach. They have beach chairs, towels and umbrellas you can take to the beach and serve a nice breakfast. A bottle of wine waits for you in the fridge which is a nice touch and some wrapped candies in the living area. Internet access was extremely weak during our stay, but that seemed to be a problem with their service provider and couldn't be helped. My only comment is our rooms were on the corner and traffic was very very noisy early in the morning which is surprising for a residential neighborhood. Altogether though, this was excellent value and a delightful stay. We would certainly return again.

“Charming B&B in a great location”

My husband and I stayed at the Carriage House over Memorial Day weekend while visiting Orange County for a friend's wedding. We drove in very late the night before and stayed at another hotel because we didn't want to inconvenience the B&B. The next day they let us check in before the normal time. We were greeted by Lesley upon our arrival and discovered that she and her husband Andy have family ties to Kauai, our absolutely favorite place in the world, so we had lots to talk about.

Our room (Lilac time on the first floor, facing the courtyard) was lovely, bright, and surprisingly big with a separate living room. There was a carafe of white wine in the fridge, and plenty of healthy snacks plus candy in a basket in the living room. We were out and about most of the day, but we enjoyed the delicious breakfasts followed by walks to the beach, only a couple blocks from the B&B. The atmosphere was friendly and laid back, and we chatted with several other guests at breakfast. We met two very nice couples who had been meeting up quarterly at the Carriage House for the past 10 years because it was halfway between their respective homes in Pasadena and San Diego. They were very gracious even though one couple normally stayed in Lilac time, which we had taken!

When we checked out, Lesley gave us both hugs and it felt perfectly normal, like we were part of the family. We look forward to the opportunity to stay at the Carriage House again.
