I booked this hotel on Hotwire.com for 2 adults and 3 children. Hotwire's website asks for number of rooms, number of adults, and number of children aged 2-17. I was traveling with 2 children. Two who fit that age range and one younger, so I did not include her in the reservation. Upon completion of my reservation and learning the name and info of the hotel, I tried to compare the rates from Travelodge's website with the rate I received from Hotwire. Travelodge La Mesa would not book a room for 5 (they wanted ages of ALL children). I called Hotwire who called the hotel manager, Oscar. He gave them verbal confirmation that we would be allowed to check in and stay with the baby. I left it at that. Fast forward 3 weeks to travel day. After a long day, my out of town cousin and I tried to check in with our three children at the Travelodge. I was nervous after reading all the terrible reviews. I had reason to be. Oscar at the front desk was cold. He would not allow me to check in after I stated that there were 5 people in my party. I explained that Hotwire had called and arranged that with HIM and he just told me to call Hotwire myself and ask for a full refund. He did not offer to help me straighten it out, did not offer a phone, or show any concern. Hotwire called Oscar and he reluctantly said he would accommodate us, but in the same breath stated that "it would be better if they didn't stay here". I would not go back in. Hotwire luckily gave me a refund and a credit for my trouble. We rebooked at Comfort Inn Zoo/Sea World and I now consider this blunder with an inconsiderate hotel owner the best part of our trip. So much better! AVOiD THIS HOTEL. There are so many great places to stay in San Diego.
