We stayed at this hotel over the past week and a half, and I have to agree with the other writers that the hotel needs some refurbishment in a multiude of ways. The water was shut off to our side of the complex for three days. The management left a note on the door at the beginning of each day to let us know that there was going to be an issue. The frustration with this is that if they knew that there was an issue that was major, they should have moved people or offered a discount immediately which they did not. They did not offer additional bottled water for drinking or any optipons, which showed that they cared little for the comfort of guests. There also was no notice that there would be jackhammering going on at 8am in the either, which just added to the annoyance of this stay. Considering that we could have stayed at the Sheraton up the street (which is a far better calibre of hotel) for $99 a night versus the $179 we were paying at the Residence, things should have been handled better. Needless to stay we ended our stay at the Residence and went elsewhere.
We had a loft room, which I do not reccomend as the downstairs bedroom has french doors with sheers on them and the upstairs bedroom is an open loft. With this configuration, you cannot use the room when others are sleeping as light and noise passes throughout the suite. You are paying for multiple bedrooms but you can't use the room any differently than if you had a studio.
Breakfast is 7 days a week in the lounge area and is average for an included breakfast. Three evenings a week the hotel hosts a "snack" of wings, or nachos or a bar-b-que. We've stayed at other residence inns and the food here is quite poor compared to other residence inns.
On the plus side, you can easily walk to the La Jolla Mall which has multiple dining and grocery options as well as two theatres.
