This is a fairly basic motel. The room felt a little outdated. A few specs of mold in the shower stall, no biggie I can always do without that. Free WiFi is always a plus, in this case it spatters at times, which is a minus. Since I'm visiting in January, and it's pretty chilly, I really needed a heater and I discovered that the wall mounted AC has that function as well. However, the AC is old and very noisy, so you can't really run it at night. So bundle up! And finally the included breakfast is also a plus, but the arrangement of the breakfast place is pretty unique, because it in fact does not exist -- they place the food in the tiny motel lobby, you take your bagel and cream cheese and basically have to step outside, and carry your coffee as well. Not good. If you are in the city for a short business trip, this will do in a pinch, but don't plan a romantic getaway, you will be sorry. Oh yeah, since it's located on a major thoroughfare, it can get noisy in the morning, so don't plan on sleeping in.

We stayed here during the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday, and had a wonderful experience. Simple, clean, quite and great location. Check in was a breeze. This place is an affordable gem in a high-priced environment. Highly recommended!!!

Yes, the hotel is dated and reminiscent of the sixties, but it is about three hundred yards from the Windansea beach. The rooms are clean and good sized with refrigerators and microwaves. Parking is free. It can be noisy in the morning when nitwits think that they need to warmup their cars for ten minutes because the temperature hit the forties. Easily fixed by earplugs for me, but not for them due to lack of sense.

For the price, I think this is a great value. Don't expect a five-star, this is a very basic hotel but, in that range, this is definitely worth reserving. Here are the pluses: (1) the staff (they went FAR out of their way to try to get my boarding passes printed, for free, and never complained after I tried with them 9 times [a comedy of errors]), (2) location is perfect, easy to access off the main La Jolla street, parking easy and safe (well-lit, in front of rooms), about 20 min from airport, (3) breakfast (yes, very basic, but good value in the room price including coffee, orange juice, bagels and bread with toaster and jams, danishes, bran and kids cereal with two kinds of milk, apples and oranges available all day), (4) room is clean, functional, had no noise problems but wore earplugs so there could have been and we didn't notice (always where earplugs and you'll sleep anywhere great). And the pillows were clean and plush and the bed very comfortable. There weren't any minuses, just a lower standard to expect. So if you visit, drop off your stuff, go touristing, come back to sleep and have a light breakfast to start your next day, then why pay more?? Spend your savings on a great dinner or seeing the sights (George's restaurant, top floor, VERY recommended).
