What a nightmare! We checked into one of the village level rooms at the La Jolla Inn in February. Paint fumes were so strong that we gave a 72 hr notice that we would be leaving. The window would not open and the ventilation unit would not stay on more than five minutes. Complaining did no good. The fumes were so toxic they set off the smoke detector at 7:00AM. Of course we immediately checked out. The front desk staffer apologized, charged us for one night, and we left to find another room. However, we were charged for early checkout when our credit card bill arrived. Multiple phone messages to the owner have not been returned over the past month, we are told he is the only one who can credit back the charges. Beware!
