“Historic and Charming La Jolla”

My colleagues and I stayed at Redwood cottages in September 2011 while attending a conference in San Diego. The cottage was perfect for the three of us, including a pull-out bed in our one bedroom cottage. Our days were spent enjoying the beach and village. We especiallly enjoyed sitting outside drinking wine by the fireplace on the cool evenings. The cottage is a short walk to the beach and the village shops and restaurants. We didn't move our car until our last day when we hiked at the Torrey Pines state natural reserve--highly recommend this hike as the views are spectactular. The grocery store was a trek so recommend picking up food before you check in or driving to the grocery store. The plants and flowers surrounding the cottages were beautiful. We kept our windows open at night and could hear the crashing waves of the Pacific and smelled the fragant flowers outside our windows. We will be back on our next trip to southern California.

“In the city; out of the bustle”

Cute cottages, many hidden from the street, with the charm of beach cottage life of years ago. We stayed in a large 2 bedroom and it was more than enough space for 3 friends traveling together. It was so, so clean welcoming. The manager showed us several of the studio/one bedrooms that were unoccupied and they were as charming as the one where we stayed.

It was walking distance (less than a mile) from restaurants and shops, very close to the beach and beach walk to the cove, and easy access to I-5.

Would definitely stay here again!

Quaint, charming, restful, relaxing, quiet, historic, rustic, garden of Eden like place, hidden within the LaJolla community, near the Cove. Walking distance to everything. You can hear the sound of the ocean at night. We plan to go back as soon as we can get away! LOVE IT!

“Fantastic location and ambience”

We spent 4 days in La Jolla in early June, just loved the southern california ambience of La Jolla Village, and the fantastic setting at this unique gardened accomodation. We rented the Whispering Sands cottage and loved the quiet, serene setting, it is located one block back from lovely white sand beach (Whispering Sands beach) and a couple blocks away from the village shopping areas. Overall, fantastic stay and location.

“Rustic & quirky”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

We stayed 3 nights in the 2b/2b Ocean Ridge cottage and are still a little mystified by the glowingreviews on Tripadvisor. First off we like to stay at rustic and quirky places but for the price (just over $300 per night with taxes) this was more than anticipated. The inside definitely looks better than the outside and was surprisingly clean for its age. The beds were very comfortable. The dishwasher had a sign saying it was out of order and appeared to have been there a long time and the disposal in the kitchen did not work. We only had breakfast at the cottage (coffee, cereal, danish, etc.) so the kitchen was not much concern for us but might be if you wanted to cook meals. The toilet seat fell off in one bathroom. The other bathroom next to the kitchen and living room had a folding door that was hard to close and offered little privacy. Since there is no A/C the windows were open and it was very noisey in the morning. The parking was difficult with only 3 spaces and the street parking was rarely available. The location was very good for the beach but a long walk to restaurants and shops in town.

Thanks so much for your review, which compliments our comfortable beds and cleanliness. We take pride in these facts. For any Trip Advisor reviewer, not just for our property, it is so appreciated by us to report any defects immediately to the manager, such as the unforeseen items which you experienced in your cottage. We have a maintenance person on call who will repair the needed items within the hour. We like to know about these facts, so they are corrected for the next guest, rather than waiting and reporting it on Trip Advisor. Just to correct some facts, we have 5 parking spaces rather than the mentioned 3, Although I am sorry that you did not experience it, but we are on a quiet part of La Jolla with little street traffic. Thanks again for your interest in Redwood Hollow.
