I spent one night at La Valencia in connection with business meetings. It was a pleasure. The style of the hotel is historic and comfortable, not overly luxurious and a bit quirky but still nice. The location cannot be beat. Views from upper floors of the main wing are gorgeous. The service was very good. I would recommend this for a brief getaway or a romantic weekend.

My boyfriend, son and I stayed at La Valencia over Christmas 2011. From beginning to end it was a wonderful stay. Despite construction, the hotel was quiet and lovely, and very welcoming. It's a nice blend of old world comfort with contemporary ease and a relaxed feel. My 20 year old son was comfortable walking around barefoot and playing ping pong near the pool, my boyfriend and I enjoyed the view of the sea from the balcony and sipping wine in the room. The staff are friendly and engaging, and the mood of Christmas came through with kind words and greetings from all, and beautiful decorations to add to the festivity.
The location is unbeatable...right in the center of La Jolla, walkable to anything in town. In just a few minutes we were in downtown San Diego, or equally convenient to Carlsbad to visit my other son. No traffic issues, no stress.
Parking is expensive but the valet service was top notch...fast, friendly, and courteous.
Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat at the hotel (pricey) but overall it was a fantastic stay, and we would return.

The hotel is beautiful - and the service AMAZING! The room was spotless, cream carpets are spotless, little balcony, really nice linens, a tiny little bathroom, very cute though! We used every bit of the property, jacuzzi, pool, dining room, front patio for breakfast. The service was impeccable, wine menu comprehensive and food GREAT! We will go again....the only bummer is they held a deposit on my credit card and then didn't use it when we checked out so double paid for about 6 days until the "hold" was released. Oh well, All in All.....a 5 star retreat! They even clean the planter beds daily!

The hotel is beautiful and historical. It is perfectly located in the heart of La Jolla. The service was excellent and we enjoyed the restaurants. However, the photos on-line of the rooms must be the only rooms that have been up-dated. The moment we walked into our room I was less than enchanted. The carpet was very worn and the furniture could use a boost as well. The bathroom was up-dated but smaller than any bathroom I experienced in Europe. All of this is would maybe acceptable but what is not acceptable is the fact that I was lead to believe I was walking into one of the well photographed rooms I saw on the web. Clearly not the case. I quickly got over the worn carpet and had a fabulous trip and enjoyed the hotel very much. Just know if yhou are booking this hotel that the rooms are small and need new carpet.
