“Beautiful view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

My husband, daughter and her fiance just spent the night at Ferrari's Crown Resort while in the area to attend a wedding. We were looking for a place with 2 bedrooms, and this fit the bill. The location of the room was fantastic. We were on the first floor, end unit, with a wonderful view of the lake (room 515); you really can't get much closer to the lake than this. EXCEPT it was a bit intimate for 2 grown couples. The main bedroom was cozy, with a king-sized bed, beamed ceiling, stone fireplace, and amazing views. The second bedroom was small, with a queen bed. Both rooms shared the bathroom (doors from each room into the bathroom), and that's where the issue was. Way too close for comfort. This set-up would be more suitable for a family (like the folks in the room next door). The beds were a little hard, but other than that I thought this was a very nice room, and a cute little resort. And so close to the lake at a very reasonable price. My one wish is that they were pet-friendly. Our dog would have loved playing on the beach and swimming in the lake!

Room Tip: Pay the extra money for the lakefront rooms. The views are awesome.

“Great deal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

This was my wife and my first time in the Area and were looking for a base.... We booked online which went well, decided to stay an extra night and got the same rate:-) We were impressed with the Hot tub and BBQ's its nice to be able to cook and unwind in a hot tub (very hot)... To sum it up, we were very happy with everything, for the money we paid, I feel we recieved a great deal!

Room Tip: All the rooms looked good, the more you pay the closer you get to the Lake...fair deal

“Great location but outdated and expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011 via mobile

Over priced. 80s bedspread. Nasty colourings green carpet and orange curtains. Weird colour scheme. Paid extra for 'lake' view but was more pool view with lake in background. Woken at 4am by elephants in room upstairs shuffling about as if they were wearing hobnail boots. Hideous noise. Pool and hot tub had covers on when I wanted to use them. Aged faded loungers on beach very unappealing. Couldn't get breakfast til 8am so we had to skip that. Check out also difficult pre 8am. Banged on door and eventually greeted by 100 year old woman in dressing gown who didn't say thanks for keys nor ask for any feedback. All VERY average, dated, naff, overpriced etc. Was like a half closed retirement village in an 80s timewarp. Not recommended for anyone sub 50. One can only hope it improves appearance after several feet of snow in winter to hide it's general naff demeanour?!

abster_c,

I'm sorry you were disappointed with your stay. I do appreciate your taking the time to leave us with feedback, especially as this gives me the opportunity to address your concerns and clarify any confusion.

My family has owned and operated Ferrari's Crown for 56 years. Admittedly, we do not have the newest or most luxurious facilities, but we are diligent about necessary renovations and work hard to provide clean, comfortable accommodations to all travelers. Our furniture is functional, and many of our rooms retain a more retro feel in their décor and color scheme. When it comes to this, we understand the people’s taste vary greatly. (Though we certainly don’t have any bedspreads from the 80s, or even the 90s— aside from those we use for drop cloths while painting!)

We consider our prices to be very competitive, relative to other properties that are, like ours, right on the water. We offer a variety of rooms to fit every budget, and all rooms allow our guests direct access to the lake. Your room looked past the pool to the Western view of the lake. Hopefully you were able to enjoy a gorgeous sunset or two. I do apologize for your noisy neighbors. Usually our resort is very quiet, and when it’s not, we address noise complaints immediately.

I also apologize for the confusion surrounding the pool and hot tub spas, as both were open for your enjoyment during your stay in September! The spas always have light covers on top, which are easily removed by guests. When the fall approaches, we keep the pool covered in an effort to conserve energy. Of course, we uncover it whenever someone requests to use it. As for the breakfast, our breakfast hours start at 8am during the summer. When we served sooner, we found there was very little demand and so we moved the time. We do start breakfast at 7:30am in the winter, though.

Finally, a standard “check out” isn’t necessary, and I’m sorry if we did not make that clear. We handle payment upon your arrival, so that when you are ready to leave, you may simply leave your keys in your room. Thus your confusion upon meeting my 72-year-old sister, Marilyn— a confusion she likely shared! She has been a fixture here at the resort for many years, and many guests can attest to her hard work and friendly demeanor.

We welcome people of all ages: our guests vary from young groups, to new young families, to other families that have been returning now for four generations. In business for over 50 years, we know by now that we cannot please everyone— but I do wish we could have attended to more of your concerns while you were here so that we could ensure a pleasant stay. Hopefully you still enjoyed your time in Lake Tahoe, one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Thanks again for your feedback; we will take it into consideration as we move forward.

Best,
Dave Ferrari

“Best View of Lake”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

My Husband and I stayed at Ferrari's for 2 nights. The room we had accommodated our needs with a kitchenette and a deck outside to view the beautiful Lake Tahoe. Price of the room included continental breakfast which was a true continental breakfast. The pools (2) were very well maintained. The facility accommodated their guests with everything a couple/family could need for enjoyment and relaxation. The hotel is old but well maintained.

Room Tip: some of the rooms do not have a view of the lake.

“Nice place to stay”

Perfect location right on the lake. Plenty of parking. Nice big room with view. VERY comfortable bed. Quiet. Continental breakfast. Nice staff. Literally steps away from parasailing, kayaking and lake fun. Great value. I'd stay here and again and would recommend this to friends.

Room Tip: This is a motel--so many rooms face the parking lot. "View" rooms have an obstructed view...
