“Don't stay there!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2009

The motel is ancient. The worst I've ever stayed at.

The TV in our room did not work, no cold water at the sink, bathroom door was missing and never got replaced, heater was very loud and furniture were very old. My God! Unfortunately we had paid for 2 nights. Did get a room change the 2nd night. The room was better, and by "better", I meant we had a working TV, cold water, bathroom door and quieter heater. Ag... after seeing the first room, our expectations were really really low, and were happy to see the things that were supposed to be there in a motel room. We still didn't dare to sit on the chairs in the room, because the white furniture looked dirty, or maybe they were just old and turned brown.

There were many vacancies at the motel, I don't understand why they had to give us the horrible room for the first night?? They obviously are not working to get guests to return. Oh and did I mention there was no complimentary breakfast - different to what they advised?

Next time, I'd rather stay in Reno and drive a longer distance to the ski resort. Basically the town Kings Beach is quite run down, except for a couple casino hotels, which are very small anyways.

“Great Place to stay at a great price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2008

I drove up to Tahoe with my buddies for a weekend of skiing, we didn't make any reservations. Most of the motels in North Tahoe were way over priced, but this place was perfect! the price was right and they even serve FREE breakfast for all their guests!

The person at the front desk was very friendly also, they gave us good directions, free local maps & offered us discount ski lift tickets.

Overall, we were all quite satisfied. We'll be coming back next season for sure! Thanks ++++

“BAD Experience - do NOT stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2008

the front desk woman was friendly and polite but there was urine and feces on the toilet seat. the wifi worked only intermittently and the staffer would not come fix it after i called the front desk. he demanded i come there. i told him i was in my pajamas in bed and could he please come the 30 feet from the office (since it was snowy and 20 degrees outside.) first he said, he couldn't come because it was after 9 pm. i pointed out that it was not yet 8 pm. then he said that the wifi worked fine in the office building and i could come there. i said that i'd paid for wifi since i needed to work several hours from my motel room for a work project.

so i said i wanted to check out; he said i'd have to pay for half the room since i had used it for 2 hours.

(the room was 50 degrees when i entered it since they'd had the heat off and i had gone out to eat and waited at a restaurant for the room to heat up!!!! only to find no wifi upon my return.)

i finally got dressed, went over there and waited while he messed with the motel's modem which was clearly the problem all along. and he could have done that earlier.

i'll never stay here again.

for $49, you should at least get a clean toilet! and some heat! and if they advertise that they have wifi (which they do on their sign!) then it should work.

“What a dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2008

We stayed at the Stevenson Inn while on a ski trip over the MLK weekend. We paid $92 + tax. It was not money well spent. We grossly overpaid! The place is falling apart. The roof was leaking at some point and there were these big yellow stains all over the warped ceiling. There was an overpowering stench of mold as soon as you set foot inside. The duvet on the bed was very old and threadbare. The only good thing about the place was that it was clean. They advertise online that they serve continental breakfast. ha ha ha Their idea of continental breakfast is prepackaged breakfast bearclaw and weak coffee with powdered creamer they set out in their office. The heater was soooo loud that you had to turn it off when sleeping. Also, it couldn't have been adjusted to any lower setting. You either had to be freezing or sweating profusely. We asked for two bed room when we made our reservations since we have a toddler, but refused to give it us when we were checking in. Don't know why, only one other room was occupied out of 22 rooms. The kid had to sleep with us. The walkway in front of the rooms was extremely iced up. They didn't even bother to make it less slippery. The staff was not friendly. Wouldn't recommend it to anybody much less to families with children of any age. What a dump!!! Next time we go skiing, we will definately pay more and stay at the place we want to ski at.

“Typical Low End Motor Lodge”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2006

people found this review helpful

First off, visitors should understand that this place sits among a row of motor-lodge type roach motels on the beach side of King's Beach, so set your expectations relatively low. It is a 1-star rated establishment.

Value of course is a very subjective thing, but this is the kind of place you're forced to stay at because the car broke down on the highway, and the rates fairly reflect that. Sheets are clean, but the rooms are desperately in need of repair (pocks on the walls, Wal-Mart fixtures, and worn-down furniture).

On the positive side, the owner was very friendly and they do actually have a hot tub. Rates were as low as you're going to find in the greater Tahoe area.

So, as we did, if you're just looking for a warm place to crash for a few hours and you're willing to go low-maintenance, this is your place. For weekend vacationers who may actually stay in the rooms, do your dignity a favor and look elsewhere.
