“NEVER AGAIN”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2010

This place is very poorly run. Creepy stoned guy (Matt) at the front desk did nothing to remedy the fact that when I got my credit card statement he not only charged me for my room, but also someone elses room for twice as much. Kept saying he would tell accounting and would not give me a number to "accounting" so that I could straighten it out myself. After months of attempting to get this charge reversed, I told him I needed accounting to call me today or I would have to dispute the charge. He took it personally and pretty much childishly hung up on me. Go w/your first instincts on this place.....

“Absolutely no way...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

We looked at this place and decided not to stay. The guy who worked there was quite nice and showed us a few of their rooms. The place is right on the water, and much less (MUCH LESS) expensive than all of its competitors, and is right next to a place where you can rent water gear (paddleboards, etc). We were quoted $69 a night for a room with two queen beds when everyone else was charging between $139 - $179 a night.

We didn't end up staying there because the place was run down and not especially clean. The carpets were stained, and windows coverings were skimpy, and I was travelling with my family and I had other options.

Just a word of caution for people traveling to this area - you really need to see the motel/hotel room you plan to stay at before you book! This is not an area full of reliable name-brand hotels. We looked at quite a few motels on this patch of beach and a lot of them have seen better times.

The so called manager was irrate to me and my wedding guests, not only was he rude to all of us he was trying to tell me that he could not find a reservation that was made for my guests. The reservation was already prepaid and i had the print out from Travelocity.

“What I imagine the Bates Motel to be like, only filthier!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2010

I booked this hotel since there was no other beach front hotel that had any vacancies. I should have trusted my instinct when I reserved the room! The male that helped me was "odd" in a creepy kind of way. Upon checking in I thought I would let my husband deal with this guy so as to avoid him myself. It all went downhill from there...
We paid before we stayed. You don't just leave a card on file as in other hotels. He even asked me how much I was told my stay would be.
As we headed down to our room, I started to feel concern regarding a stay in this hotel. Just the walkway being dirty and seeing into the other rooms without proper window coverings.
And then we arrived at our room. The first thing I noticed was the spots/stains on the carpet. Then, the bedding, which just repulsed me at the thought of having to lay on it. There were no pillowcases on any of the pillows, and I questioned whether or not the bedding was clean. I did a quick walk through only to be further disgusted. There was no toilet seat cover, no window coverings on one window, the drapes were falling off and without sheers so you couldn't leave the drapes open. There were cobwebs in the corners and dust in clumps on the ceiling. I also questioned the bathroom having been cleaned. I had my husband go down to the office and request our money back which he was told wouldn't happen. He explained that a room in that condition was unacceptable and asked if there were others in better condition. There weren't! Having driven three hours, and in town to celebrate a family member's birthday, we had no choice but to stay. We requested that the room be cleaned, bedding included to which the man gave a choice based on race as to whom we wanted to clean our room. We had two people clean our room while I watched from outside to make sure it was done. We avoided the room like the plague until it was time for bed and hesitantly retired for the evening, locking the deadbolt and making sure the windows were secure as well (creepy, remember?).
The next morning, my husband left our room with our young daughter and niece leaving me with my newborn baby. I didn't lock the deadbolt, as they just went to get some hot cocoa. While tending to my newborn and preparing to take a shower, I get a sudden knock on the door, my door opens and this man walks in looks around and proceeds to walk out! I'm not referring to my husband, but to the guy who initially checked us in and gave me the creeps! He was actually in my room. Frozen, it took me a second to register what took place and then proceeded to look out of my door way to confront this man. He was gone. I called my husband and told him what happened and he said he would talk to this guy and have this all taken care of. The guy adding insult to injury proceeds to tell my husband he apologizes and to "just go back and tell her you spanked me." I could go on and on about how horrible the whole experience was but I'll just advise you to not stay, and especially with small children. It was completely unacceptable!

“Liked it a lot, but you get what you pay for - not clean enough for very young children”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2010

Typically I don't stay in hotel rooms that cost less than $100, so last year I was thrilled when I was in a bind and needed to take my kid to the snow right away and found this place online. Although I can't disagree with the other reviewers regarding the cleanliness of the room (it leaves something to be desired and I'm definitely taking my own pillow case next time I go) I liked it overall. Because I don't expect to get top quality when I'm not paying top dollar. The man at the front office was extremely friendly. My kid was elated over all the free promotional stuff (like granola bars and gum) that was being given away at the time we were there. However, the cleanliness is a major issue, I wouldn't go there with a baby or toddler, because the rooms are a bit dirty and not clean enough for a child that might put things in their mouths. The restaurant next door is excellent. I had one of my most peaceful moments in the whole winter sitting with my child, and our pizza, and my cocktail watching the snow fall over the lake. That wouldn't have been possible had I not found such a cheap room. Also, the location is really convenient to the Safeway in Kings Beach where we got our extra winter gear (snow boots for my son) and a snow park for sledding, which the hotel manager directed us to - as well as directing us to the fabulous restaurant. It is also close to skiing, although if you can afford to ski, you can probably afford to stay in a nicer place. I am going back to that place but I'm not gonna expect Doubletree Hotel type amenities and service, and that is not the kinda price I'll be paying either.
