LIKES
Very picturesque courtyard
Hostel is warm even in communal areas
Free pick up at train station at 6.00a.m.
Good value rooms
24hr very hot water
We were able to keep the room until 20.00hrs before catching a late sleeper train
Some staff tried to be helpful despite having little or no English
DISLIKES
Grubby, could have done with a thorough clean instead of leaving cigarette ends under the cupboard.
Bathroom drains smelt
Beer very expensive compared to Yamen Hostel opposite and restaurant next door, up 100%
Breakfast also expensive, up 30% over Yamen Hostel opposite.
There is a serious language barrier.
The boy!! He must be the son of the owner as he would have been fired long ago. He just ignored me and I had to stand in front of him and wave my arms in the air and shout “hello” before another member of the staff asked if they could help. He continued to ignore me....git!!!
Everyone in previous reviews talks about The Great Bob!! Bob who?
Tour information useless as there were no reasonable English speakers. We went to Robert at Yamen Hostel.
OVERALL
WE would stay at Zhengjia again as we're on a budget and the rooms are best value. However, we did use Yamen opposite for beer, breakfast, laundry and tour information as Robert is excellent.
SUGGESTION
Try and get a day out at Mianshan Mountain, it’s not in Lonely Planet so there are virtually zero western tourists. Robert can help you to do it by taxi or via the train/bus if you’re on a budget.
