We stayed 2 nights in a luxury room. There are 4 rooms per building - 2 upstairs & 2 downstairs. The decks look out at the fly fishing pond. The water in the pond was aerated & we did not see any mosquitoes. The resort is located in a great forest setting with views of the mountains and I liked our room a lot. However, our 2 dining experiences at the onsite Eagle's Landing restaurant were terrible & it was the first hotel I've ever stayed at that had a 10 am check-out.
I liked the woodsy decor of our room, which was very clean. The spacious bathroom had a tub & a separate shower with a rain type showerhead. The toilet was alone in a "water closet" type room in the bathroom. The bathroom also had a vanity cabinet like you might find in a home with a couple of drawers & under the sink storage. An accordion door separated the entire bathroom from the bedroom. The bed was very comfortable but the pillows were too soft There was a refrigerator but no microwave. The room had a few more drinking glasses, including 2 wine glasses, than most rooms. The heater worked well. The gas fire stove also put out heat but did not have a very attractive fire. I couldn't get logged on to Wi-Fi but I didn't try to resolve the problem. The hotels' policy is to change the bed sheets every 3 days with a light housekeeping on other days.
The hotel has a walking trail and a forest labyrinth. Use of the onsite fitness center & spa is included in the room rate as is the use of the fly fishing pond.
The Eagle's Landing restaurant is very attractive with lots of wood, large windows and a nice view of the mountains. When we checked into the hotel at 6:30 p.m., we were advised that we should make reservations for the restaurant if we wanted to eat there. We made reservations for 7:30. We ordered drinks about 7:40. Our waiter was busy with 2 parties of 8 people. (The restaurant obviously didn't have enough wait staff & we heard the next day that one or two employees hadn't come to work .) At 8:05, we still didn't have drinks, we hadn't ordered and our waiter hadn't said a word to us since he took our drink orders. We were hungry and frustrated with the lack of service so we decided to leave. We politely told the waiter we were leaving and he seemed very surprised. The whole experience was very disappointing as were looking forward to a nice dinner, not the cheese & crackers we ended up eating in our room.
Guests at the resort are given $8.00 vouchers to use towards breakfast at the Eagle's Landing restaurant. The resort had no vacancy so we thought that the restaurant would be better prepared for the number of breakfasts they would be serving. We were wrong. We arrived at the restaurant at 8:15 am. There was only one young man, who seemed rather inexperienced, staffing the dining room - he was host/waiter/bus boy/cashier. We didn't order until 8:38 and we didn't get our order of 2 eggs, a bagel, a bowl of oatmeal (which was kind of cold) and a small dish of fruit until almost an hour after we got there. The couple behind us, who were the first ones in the restaurant to get food that morning, were still waiting for their check. A man who looked like he worked in maintenance, was there briefly about 8:50 helping to fill & refill coffee cups. We didn't bother to go to breakfast the 2nd morning we were there. I understand that unexpected things can happen & that employees sometimes don't come to work but this resort seems to have no backup plan to deal with such situations.
I would probably recommend this hotel to friends as a nice place to stay but would caution them about dining there.
