This was a planned stop on a bicycle ride from Paso Robles to Cambria and what a stop it was. We arrived here late on Sat afternoon of Thanksgiving weekend. With the hotel staff off duty we were able to quickly get our room keys from the key lockers with the instructions provided by the staff via email. The rooms were great. Large, well decorated and you feel the history in it. Each room had a TV, Microwave, phone and all of the amenities one would expect, but to be honest we didn't need any of them as we came for a get away trip not to sit in a room and watch TV. Don't expect the staff to cater to your needs as there is no staff in the evenings or weekends, but don't let that bother you as everything you need is there.
The restaurant is currently closed and we were told of this during the reservation process. So just plan ahead a little and bring a picnic dinner. There is a bar there that is well stocked and not over priced. Swap some stories with the other patrons or active Army personnel. They do serve a very nice continental breakfast in the morning.
The Hacienda is located on the grounds of Fort Hunter Liggett an active but quite Army base. With this in mind you will need valid ID issued by a government agency (Drivers License, Passport etc), vehicle registration and vehicle insurance. You will also need you room confirmation email.
We all stayed in the Tower rooms which as I said before were great. There is not much to do here other than feel the history and appreciate the architecture. There is no spa or pool but the location is great. Take a walk around in the morning light. The view to the west is wonderful. The drive in past Lake Nacimiento and the drive out to the coast highway had fantastic views with many photo opps.
