I have been to Stillwater Cove Ranch several times. The location is wonderful. The redwood forest is right behind the ranch and the ocean is right in front of it. The cabins are relatively clean and the price is not bad. There is no phone service or television which is Ok as my daughter and I took our laptops up to watch movies.

We stayed in the cook's cabin which could be adorable with a few changes. The biggest problem I had with the place and have always had is the curtains. They are very sheer and offer no privacy...even in the bathroom. I think it is creepy to be out somewhere near the woods where anyone could be looking in your windows. We ended up putting towels over the windows. I noticed other people putting up sheets.

The towels were old and had holes in them. There was also a strong smell of urine in the bathroom that permeated the place. The shower curtain had no liner.

With some decent curtains, updated lighting fixtures and pictures, a small refrigerator and a small table to eat from this place would be tremendously better. I understand it is a cabin but upgrading and updating it a little would make it much more welcoming and I think people would be more likely to return. As it is, I wouldn't recommend it or go back.

Stillwater Cove ranch is just as simple as it gets: clean, comfy accomodations on an outrageously gorgeous property that's also a working farm. During our stay on an unseasonally warm December week, we were the only guests: arrived at night to a roaring fire in our room and a pile of wood set out by the inn's (seemingly only??) manager/staffperson. We awoke to peacocks strutting over the roof (to our dog's delight) and spent each day wandering the farm property, surrounding forests and beautiful secluded Cove. Excellent location for day trips further north to the lighthouse at Point Arena, and local cities have everything you need to stock up and stay indoors.

We live in the SF Bay Area: if you're not fussy and are looking for a getaway that's easy on your budget, try Stillwater before the hotel rates catch up with it. These are not the typical Bay Area accomodations: no in-room phones and no cell service for miles, no tv, no internet - we could not have been happier with our stay.

Stillwater Cove Ranch's location is excellent, the facilities are definitely rustic but adequate. The deal breaker is the staff. I have traveled a great deal and I have never been treated that rudely and inhospitably by any lodging's staff. Do yourself a favor and find someplace else to stay along this beautiful coast.

A humble, inexpensive place, not the kind to stay in if you want mints on your pillow. Seventies decor; king bed was firm and supportive. The decor was quintessentially California - neutral ecru linen drapes, abalone shell tiebacks, natural wood table, etc. Generous supply of coffee making paraphernalia. The owners kindly provide the first load of firewood if asked.

Loved the serenity, the jaw dropping views and the proximity of wonderful trails leading through awesome redwood forests to the ocean. The peacocks wandering about the yard were blissfully silent; just content to display their resplendent plumage.

Caveat: It is in a remote location with a choice of either a pricey restaurant nearby or a store that sells some foodstuff. People have been known to bring their own grills.

A place to go to for solitude and regenerating one's spirit. A bit of California that I thought was lost forever.
