My sister and I stayed at Jamestown Railtown Motel over the Thanksgiving weekend. The front desk managers where very friendly and answered our questions in a friendly manner. The room was clean and plenty of room for our things. The beds were comfortable, clean and had two pillows that were not flat nor disgusting. Have been at other places where you only had one pillow and it was totally flat. The microwave and fridge were clean and did not smell musty nor old. We liked the location and ease of getting to the motel. The restaurants and shops are within walking or driving distance was an added plus. We went up there for the Christmas Faire and Parade in Sonora and we were not disappointed by the ease in directions or driving distance from the Motel to Sonora. The only downside would be the fridge in the room, if we had known about it being controlled by the front desk we would have asked to have it adjusted so our food would not have gotten frozen. We still totally recommend the Motel and if we are up that way again would pick that Motel.

We stayed here as a jumping off point to Yosemite - Probably not the greatest of ideas as it is a little far away for that (~1.5hrs each way).

For the hotel itself, it was clean and looked like a lot of work had been done recently (carpet and paint). We had a room out the back that was dead quiet, could only here the airconditioners and that was it. We didn't try out the jacuzzi. Silly us.

The only painful part was the fact that we made two bookings on Expedia (two days then an extra day) and had to fill out all the paperwork twice.

As an improvement they could probably offer breakfast, but other than that I'd have no problems staying here again. Also, the Wifi signal out to the back rooms was very weak.

We stayed two nights about two weeks ago. The rooms were clean, simple, spacious- we had a room with two queens but had to switch rooms(my mistake when booking). Neither of the rooms we stayed in(both upstairs) were noisy. We never heard our neighbors and the hotel is half a block off the very quiet mainstreet, so there was no street noise.

The hotel offers easy walking access to the small quaint town of Jamestown, and a little longer walking time to the Railroad museum. We used it as a base for a day trip to Yosemite and a second day panning for gold. The Railtown Motel was a fine base- simple- nothing fancy, but clean, quiet, refrigerator, microwave, pool- and very affordable. The beds were comfortable- my only complaint was the pillows were not comfortable for me and I would bring my own next time.

If you are looking for a 5 star place, this isn't it. But a clean, quiet, safe, place to explore the Gold country it is.

We stayed here for one night. Big mistake. Noisy, and our room was dirty, as were the towels, etc. We did not use the towels. The people in the office were not helpful. We had a credit card problem here also and the office staff was very unhelpful, even with a credit card company representative on the phone. We will never, ever stay here again.
