“Need to put the hot back in "hot springs"”

We were forewarned about this place by friends and Trip Advisor. Let's just say that while things were not as dreadful as I had feared, it is not someplace I would visit again or think of recommending to a friend. First of all, when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon, only one of the pools was open- and the water was barely tepid- not very enjoyable or relaxing for a late winter afternoon. When we left the next morning, we were told that the pool- covered and with steam escaping, was not open in the morning, even though check out was 11 am. The jacuzzi was somewhat warmer, cleanliness- well, you just don't want to think too much about it. The rooms themselves, though dated, were fine- seemed clean enough. This place costs about a hundred a night - not outrageous, but considering the less than spa quality facilities, not worth a second visit. The restaurant, the only one in town, is pleasant enough and the wine is cheap, but the owner would do well to consider at least including some kind of breakfast with the price of a room to make it more attractive, if she is not going to invest in upgrading

“Run down, creepy, smelly place”

Completely out of date and leaks! We had our two day stay interrupted by rain coming down in our room. The owner didn't seem to care and gave us no credit. She stood there in the middle of the hallway between the lobby (hardly one at all) and the hall to the bar with water pouring down around her! We ended up going home at 5 am (after the power had been off and the bucket of water was filling up). It is run down and appears the owners do not have the money to keep it up. We will never return and would not recommend this place to anyone. The restaurant, on the other hand was good, we liked the food and the service was great. The pictures on their website are deceiving. It is by no means a resort.

“enter the slow lane and take it easy, it's Hot Springs time”

Great mineral waters, very good restaurant, funky bar scene, 1960s retro rooms, I stay here whenever I'm anywhere near San Diego, it is a throwback and lots of fun.

“This place is going downhill fast.”

Living in San Diego we go out to this hotel several times a year. I'll have to say that we were a little disappointed at how run down this place has become. We stopped in to swim in the pool and jacuzzi. We got several beverages from the bar but were turned off with the smokers inside and a big smelly dog sitting next to the bar. The pool area is in need of some serious maintenance. The flowers and garden areas are overgrown with weeds and nothing has been swept in a long time. We really like this place but are afraid it is going downhill fast and might be on the verge of closing. Too bad for it was a great place.

“Mostly Plusses. But the smokers...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

the smokers have got to go. This place is an attraction for the peace, the water, the sounds, the sun and shadows. So its a VERY BIG MINUS to have unkempt folks sitting IN the bar smoking, which blows into the hotel desk (read Welcome) area. Most nights, you will have to go looking for the clerk to take your money, and having to filter through cigar and cigarette smoke to find an employee is, at least, discouraging. Ive been driving out to the spa for over 10 years, and the place is barely kept up. Seems in this past year the jukebox blasting through the wall into the hot tub area is worse than ever. Sad, but its making me reconsider. Dam if it werent so lovely and didnt have such special water it'd make the decision that much easier. Rich.
