Spent a week here in late Nov 2013. Weather was fantastic for the whole week, although we did hear stories about lot of rain for previous 3 weeks - so quite lucky in hindsight, but we had fantastic weather for whole week we were there.
The Service from start to end was simply "the best". Everybody smiling and simply wanting you to get the precisely what YOU wanted from YOUR holiday - whether activities, pampering or just simply relaxing. "Mr Friday" concept worked perfectly - Roman was our man and just perfect, nothing being too much trouble, including the occasional last minute changing of minds! You really felt like the whole place was simply focussed on making sure you got what you wanted - even if that was "nothing", just peace and quiet.
The whole feel of the place was understated luxury - simple in look and feel, but very high quality. Particularly liked the dress-down nature from start to finish - you can pack very, very lightly which is a nice difference from some of it's top-end competition where there are dress codes. "No shoes" was a liberating and an effective factor! Felt quite strange putting something on your feet, getting out of the sea-plane on the way home!
Food was just fantastic - whether the big bbqs or the refined simplicity of the Japanese (By The Beach) or the Mediterranean (Fresh). The last evening's dinner at the Moonlit Table high up in the Tree Tops, under the stars, was just unforgettable, followed by a short trip to its own Observatory next door! Wine (and all drinks) were on the expensive side (including all the additional Taxes) which add up to a sizable "extras" bill upon leaving - but the quality was always very good!
We stayed in two villas whilst we were there - both on the Sunrise side - a Crusoe Villa and a special, expected treat for the end of the week - Villa #1 (just "wow"!!!! think "Hollywood star's private getaway"!). The "Standard" villa was just beautiful too - your own very private space, including beach. The whole place had a feeling of space and freedom, not matter how many guests were around.
We biked over to the sunset side plenty of times - Barabara (sat on the decking and nets over the edge of the reef, watching the fish and the sun go down) and eating fantastic Asian food on the beach in the evening, with the ocean lapping at your feet. We don't think the neighbouring island wouldn't have bothered us terribly, although the quieter outlook from our Villas was more relaxing and idyllic (we thought!).
Have seen few TA comments about the bikes - we loved them, just perfect for the whole attitude and feel of the island. The feeling of "fun" and simplicity, cycling back through the centre of the jungled island close to midnight (after watching a classic film at the fun Cinema Paridiso), carrying a torch to see where you're going, was great for us, and felt just right for the set-up of SF. We even had our bikes personalised for us when we arrived - simple, small thing, but again just making everything perfect for you!
Negatives? Well, the mosquitoes are the only notable negative we experienced. You are not allowed to forget you are in the middle of a large, dense, island Jungle. Just take plenty of heavy Deet applicant with you and you will minimise the effect - SF supplies anti-insect cream (and fogs the island daily), but it's not very effective - DEET and plenty of it.
So would we go back? YES, definitely. Our #1 in the Maldives - and #1 for any trip where we want to completely chill. If you want activities (and are not big divers or snorkelers - we aren't, although we did a bit of local snorkelling and enjoyed it immensely) then don't go to Maldives. The very height of the Customer Service has to be a place that just simply adjusts its own time-zone so that its guests get the best of the sunshine available for them (an extra hour ahead of Male, to make sure we had the sun from 7am-7pm)!
Thanks to everyone at SF - they've got it as close to perfect as we've ever seen!! S&D.
