“Comfortable, but a bit rustic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

The room descriptions involve some “poetic license”. The “fireplace” turns out to be a propane heater with exposed flame. The “beach view” turns out to be a window facing a 30 ft wide strip of man-made sand “beach”. The rooms are recently renovated, but the TV is ancient, as are many of the elements in the kitchen, etc. Rustic and, perhaps, a little over priced, but at the same time, comfortable.

“A great base to explore Point Reyes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011

Our room at Tomales Bay Resort was quaint, clean and comfortable. We were in room #3, and while it wasn't fancy, it was perfect for our stay. The bed was comfortable, and to be honest, the room was much nicer than I was expecting (after reading some reviews on tripadvisor.) Cassandra was very helpful and friendly.

We came to Tomales Bay simply because I wanted to spend a few days exploring Point Reyes (1 1/2 days of a 14 day northern CA trip), so this was a great place to stay during our short time in the area. I would certainly recommend this for anyone who is looking for an affordable place to stay in that area.

“not quite the pictures on their website”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

Clean and remodeled like the site said, but the grounds were very misleading on their website. The "beach" was a 5 foot strip with A picnic table and 3 chairs and the rest of the grounds was pretty much just dead grass. They advertise this as a wedding destination... not a place where I would want a wedding.

“They're trying, but haven't quite made it.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

You are greeted with a survey piece that says "we have spent the last three years renovating the property and rooms..." We stayed in the Driftwood rooms - basically clean, but for the price, they really need help, and I don't think the renovations have quite made it to the Driftwood rooms. These rooms must be made of cardboard - you can hear everything! There is no air conditioning - so you might say, "open the windows" - well they're rght on the gravel parking lot and at hip height and are on the main walkway to the beach. And for the sound, there may as well not even be windows. The restaurant is closed, and they give you a 10% discount at a sister-property in Olema, which is about 5 miles away and really over-priced. Our lunch "special" with one beer, including tip and tax (and discount!) was $39! We're rating this "average" because the staff is friendly and helpful; the newer more expensive rooms do look quite nice, but we can't comment on the noise level; and if you're here to boat, fish or swim, you'll likely enjoy it. But we would never stay in the Driftwood rooms again. We had much nicer accomodations up the coast for the same price.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the Driftwood rooms.

Wow,
Demise from the reservations department at the Tomales Bay Resort is awesome. Happy, courteous, and a true professional.
She provided me with great advice and fixed a reservations mistake.
