“A Weekend in the Pines”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

The Lodge at Pine Cove is a nice B&B for weekend getaways. We've spent the last two New Years' Eve there and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The Lodge is at about the 6000' elevation mark and approx. 4 miles outside of Idyllwild. The first year we stayed in the Lily Room which is the largest of the four. The second year we were in the Taquitz Room which, while comfortable, was a little too small for us. The bathroom wasn't in great shape either. Both rooms have doors that exit onto a nice wooden deck that face east so you get morning sun. We spent quite a lot of time out there listening to the wind in the pines and enjoying a good read in the warm sun.

The common area consists of a cozy living room with fireplace and plenty of seating. Music is often played over the speakers, typically Classical and the volume is usually on the low side so as to not be intrusive.

The breakfasts are very nice and served family-style, always fresh and warm with nice muffins, OJ, coffee and fruit. The pancakes and French Toast dishes they've prepared were both excellent, and steamed-scrambled eggs made a nice accompanying side dish. Both owners are very friendly and accommodating and will chat with you about almost anything. Our New Years celebrations with them included champagne, cider and fun board games!

My take is that most folks who stay there are looking for a quiet time so it's a nice, peaceful environment. Idyllwild is a small town but does have a few interesting stores, a movie theater and the lovely Cafe Aroma for nice lunches/dinners. It can be either chilly in the winter or moderate, and the summers are on the warm side. The town and Lodge make a nice location for those interested in hiking the many trails available.

Room Tip: For a few extra bucks I'd choose the Lily Room. Lots more space and a nice big tub.

We loved it!
We enjoy getting time away on our anniversary and this is the place to do it. The rooms are so clean and well stocked if you forget anything. Gary is very helpful and recommended the best place for dinner.
The home cooked breakfast made every morning special.

The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxing.

We will definitely return.
Thank you Gary,
Carlos and Rebecca

“Home away from Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2008

We decided to stay at the Lodge at Pine Cover initially for the price -- at around $100/night with free parking and breakfast, it was just the ticket for a quick getaway over Memorial Day weekend for our annniversary. It's about 3 miles from Idyllwild proper (anout a five minute drive in fog) but miles away from the commute/stress of everyday life.

Gary, the proprietor, is very friendly and laid-back. He showed us to our room (upgraded because the original room has just been painted and still had some fumes) and offered us coffee. We took him up and his offer and asked about the places in town that locals eat. He gave some great suggestions, which we took him up on and were not disappointed. The room itself was IMMACULATE, as were the other rooms that Gary let me tour, and the Lodge as a whole. The room had a small refrigerator, TV w/VCR, coffee/hot chocolate/tea makings, small toiletries, fluffy towels, and a fantastic deck. It was all we needed and more.

Breakfast was yummy on both days, with fruit, yogurt, sausage, and homemade muffins/pancakes/french toast offered, along with OJ and coffee.

On our last night, Gary had a fire going and we sat until evening chatting away. It was a fantastic stay, and I recommend the Lodge for anyone who loves B&Bs and loves to be social.
