“Still a decent place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I stayed here again last week (Feb 2012) and had a non-eventful week. The hotel is about the same as my last stay back in August 2011 and that's what I like about it - consistency. While it's not the best place to stay in the area, it's certainly not the worst by far. It's on a busy intersection but with a back room, I was able to get a very good night's sleep each night. The breakfast is still there and it's average, but it gets the job done. The hotel is clean and in a safe area. No problems walking around at night, just be sure to look before crossing because the cars will mow you down without thinking twice. There's a Starbucks and Ralph's (food store) right around the corner. There are restaurants very close by in the adjacent plaza's and the Hermosa beachfront is within a 10-15 minute walk. The staff was friendly and there was ample parking in the garage under the building. Nothing bad to say about the stay this time. I'll be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a back room. You still get ocean view but it's much less noisy.

“Average to Very Good...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

My husband stays here a couple of times a month. I got to spend a couple of days with him this past week. When he arrived the first room he was in (a king) had trouble with the toilet (it was loose and coming up from the floor). Upon request, they moved him to a different room which had two queen beds which we didn't need so he asked for a room with a king sized bed. The staff was very accomodating and changing rooms was not a problem. We were on the back side of the hotel so there wasn't too much street noise. The living area of the room was clean and comfortable with a jetted tub in the corner. We had trouble getting the plug to stay in the drain and there was a huge crack on the outside of the tub, but the tub was usable and relaxing. The bathroom for the most part was clean. Shower, toilet and sink area were fine, but the baseboards were pretty dusty, the wall paper was peeling in spots and mold was growing where it was peeling and also mold in the grout of the tile floor. Didn't want to walk barefoot on the tile. I was surprised about the mold because as I was coming out of the lobby into the stairwell a member of the housekeeping staff was really scrubbing the concrete stairs - one would think mold in a living space would be more of a concern. Bed was comfortable. In room fridge was nice to have. There is a small outdoor pool area that we didn't use. We looked at it the night I arrived and in the dark it looked nice. Not sure if it's open during the day this time of year, but with the jetted tub in the room you don't really need it!
Deluxe Continental Breakfast with fresh fruit, bacon, boiled eggs, bagels, muffins, waffles, juice, milk, hot and cold cereal - more than adequate for our needs. Breakfast room opens onto a balcony where there are tables so we could enjoy the morning sun. Apparently they close the breakfast room and balcony during the day...I had gone and brought my lunch back and was eating on the balcony when a member of the staff came and told me "It's closed!" and was anxious for me to leave. I told her I'd go finish eating in the room (but at 1:30 p.m. I was still waiting for it to be made up and didn't want to be in the way). She asked me how long I'd be and I didn't know. She said "30 minutes?" I said "Sure." I didn't feel I was in anyone's way and I wasn't using anything in the breakfast area, just enjoying being outside on the balcony.
Restaurants, grocery store, misc. shops, beach and pier are within a pleasant walking distance. Uphill coming back but it felt good after having dinner.
I suggested to my husband that he try finding a place on Hotwire that might be a little cleaner/nicer for the money, but he says this is just fine for him. He said the only reason he changed rooms in the first place because of the toilet is because I was coming down and he knew it would bother me :o)
Yes, I would stay here again, but I would come armed with Tilex and Lysol just in case.

Room Tip: Bring your Tilex.

“Will definitely stay here again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Quality Inn and Suites Hermosa Beach served our needs perfectly. Very convenient to the airport, yet far enough away. At the intersection of Sepulveda Blvd and Aviation Road (ask for room at back of hotel -- view and no noise). It has easy access to the 405 and 10. Ten minutes to Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach. Easy drive to Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Malibu, etc. Safe neighborhood. Free indoor parking. Breakfast was all we needed (hard boiled eggs, bacon, muffins, small danish, toast, english muffins, bagels, make-your-own waffles, juice, fruit). There is a terrace off the breakfast room with umbrella tables and chairs. Lovely to have your coffee overlooking the Pacific. Our room was spacious with king bed and sofa. Housekeeping did a wonderful job of keeping it spotless.

Made use of the nice spapool/patio (lounge chairs plus a round umbrella table and four chairs). Please note this is not a huge area. But, it was perfectly fine for us.

Two computers and a printer were available for guests to use in a room off the lobby. Very handy for printing boarding passes. The front desk clerk was very helpful when I encountered a problem with the printer.

Ralph's supermarket and Starbucks are a very short walk away. Ralph's has a nice salad bar & deli. It also stocks all types of adult beverages. Easy to make up a nice dinner or afternoon snack for the room or spapool patio.

Beach and waterfront restaurants are a good walk (some up hill/down hill) or very short drive from the hotel. Restaurant recommendations: Hennessey's in Hermosa Beach (roof top patio), Panchos in Manhattan Beach (use valet parking $4 and worth it), Tony P's in Marina Del Rey, and Captain Kidd's in Redondo Beach. Also, if you love first class hot dogs, set the GPS for 709 North La Brea Ave, LA and visit Pinks. Hot dog heaven !!!

Room Tip: Request a room at the back of hotel. We had 211 and it was great -- balcony with view of ocean and m...

“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I always stay here when visiting LA. The staff are very friendly & helpful. The hotel is within walking distance to the beach; there are many good restaurants and cute shops also within walking distance. It's convenient to many other areas either via the freeway or Pacific Coast Highway.

“Love this Hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I have been staying here consistently for 15 years. Great location, close to beach, shopping and family. Hotel is always clean, comfortable and we feel safe here - kind of like our home away from home. The hotel staff are always friendly and take care of anything we need. We will keep coming back!

Room Tip: I have stayed in rooms all over this hotel and never had a bad room.
