“Read the Management Responses to ALL the Negative Reviews”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

If you look at the negative responses, you will find that this is an ill-mannered motel that has an issue with honesty.

The management responses all appear to be "we've worked on the negatives 'since your stay' and it's better NOW!"

I don't buy it, and you should not, either.

This is a property that clearly cares more for $$$ than pleasing customers. I have a feeling many of those who rated this a FIVE are management shills...

“The Unvarnished Truth”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

This is about the most basic motel you can stay in. The management was very nice, but the misleading advertising, the condition of the rooms, and the property's regular clientele will have me looking for another place on my next stay in town.
Regarding cleanliness, most of the surfaces seemed clean. They left spiderwebs in corners, so we did a nightly check to make sure no black widows were currently inhabiting the room. Also, they did not change the sheets while we were there, but that's not a big deal.
My biggest complaint about the cleanliness was the carpets. They were black with filth when we checked in. If we walked on it in our bare feet, the soles of our feet were black by the time we reached the other side of the room. They actually cleaned the carpets during our stay. Unfortunately, they still had not dried a couple days later when we checked out, so the room had kind of a wet dog smell to it. Also, though the visible stains were gone, the carpet was so old and full of embedded dirt, it still left the soles of our feet black after being cleaned.
The continental breakfast consisted of waffles, cereal, and some sort of pastry. There were no fruits or proteins available. The orange juice tasted like a packaged orange drink. They had multiple gourmet options for coffee drinkers, and the small breakfast area was kept spotless.
Management assured us no prostitution currently goes on at the motel, despite the property's sketchy history, which seemed to be true. There did appear to be some very rough individuals checking in near the end of our stay, so we didn't feel entirely safe walking to/from our car after dark.
Our towels were so old and threadbare, we could literally see through them in places. The furniture, bedspreads, and linens were clearly from many, many years past. The TV set was a fairly new flat-screen.
My biggest issue about the property is the misleading advertising. They claim the rooms are newly renovated. Don't believe it, and don't believe the pictures. Putting a new TV in a room and possibly changing out the light fixtures (I think those were relatively new) does not qualify a property as newly renovated. As far as I could tell, the room hadn't even been painted in years, and the finish of the bathtub was actually peeling off it was so old.
My other complaint is that I booked a "premium" room, and if you go directly to the Vagabond Inn website, you have the option to choose between regular and "executive" rooms with the "executive" rooms at a higher price than the regular rooms. "Premium" and "executive rooms had the same descriptions, so they appear to have the same meaning. When I tried to verify with the manager the difference between the regular and "premium" or "executive" rooms upon check-in, I was told there are no different room types, other than 1 or 2 beds, smoking or non-smoking. Interesting, since they charge extra for the "premium" or "executive" titles.
These misrepresentations for room types and supposed renovations, more than anything else, are the reasons I can't recommend this motel to others and will not be staying there again. I felt swindled and refuse to give my business to a company with such questionable ethics.

“Rudest Desk Person ever he called me an F ing idiot”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

After booking on priceline last minute we attempted to check in at the hotel. We were informed that only smoking rooms were available even though this was not specified online. We told the desk person that we would be seeking accomidations elsewhere and to please cancel reservation. He told us that this was not possible and we would be charged for the room regardless if we stayed there or not. I raised my voice to him he called me an F ing idiot and informed me to get off his property.... After my wife got a hold of priceline rep they attempted to call him and he refused to answer the phone...... Priceline finally got the reservation cancelled and we stayed elsewhere...... Vagabond if you allow a person representing your chain to do business this way I for one will choose to take my business elsewhere....... I am sure I will get a computer generated response with no real resolution. If I get resolution I will update this review

“Can't beat it for the price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2011

I've stayed at this hotel a few times. First, remember it is an Economy Motel...so my review will be appropriate for that category.

The staff are always nice, helpful. The rooms are big, but worn. Older tube TVs in the rooms and a very limited number of channels. However there is great coffee and a waffle-maker available for the included breakfast. Rooms have a fridge too.

There is no pool, and no view, so this motel is perfect only if you need somewhere to sleep and take a shower. However, given the price, their rewards program (stay 9 nights get the 10th free) and bear in mind it's approx $40 for a weekend night....well you can't beat that!!! You'd pay $10 for the coffee and waffles at Denny's.......

Room Tip: Try not to get a room close to the outside ice machine

“Surprisingly nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

I'm a self-described hotel snob, and I can't remember if I've ever stayed in a 2-star hotel before. However, times are tight, and I needed a place to sleep for 6 hours while on a long drive. I chose wisely.

The Vagabond Inn in Hemet surpassed my expectations. The room was clean, had fresh paint, newer linens and a comfortable bed. The manager was very helpful and I got a good night of sleep.

To my surprise, there was a coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge in the room. There were also shampoo, conditioner, and lotion (in an eco-friendly, bulk dispenser). The only downsides (for a hotel of this quality) was that the room is on the small side and the towels are tiny. Seriously, they are small. If you've got more than one person staying there, just request extra towels up front.

Although I was long gone before it began, I'm told there is a continental breakfast in the (small) lobby. I saw coffee, a juice machine, and a waffle maker... I don't know what else is included.

All in all, if you're looking for an affordable , clean place to rest your head, you really can't go wrong with the Vagabond.
