My good friend and I booked 2 rooms for 2 nights on 4/11/12. I have also stayed at Best Western in Petaluma, which is about 20 minutes south, so I figured I would give this property a shot. This property is bigger, and has more amenities than the one in Petaluma. This one has a gym, a pool, a conference center, and a breakfast room. The location right off the Dry Creek exit is convenient, and it takes about 2 minutes by car to get to downtown Healdsburg. You could probably walk there in about 20 miniutes, and you could even walk to some wineries. Super convenient. My room had 2 queens. It was huge, spotless, and the bed was very comfortable. The sheets are soft, and there were pillows in 2 different levels of firmness. The climate-control worked excellent. You could easily fit a family of five in this room, and this was the cheapest room they had. In this regard, this motel is substantially above other properties in it's price class. I only paid $65 per night, which is a bargain for that area. My good friend had the room next door which was identical, and they have a connecting door. Again, even a large family would have ample space in 2 rooms.
The only downside, is that the walls are paper-thin. You can hear everything going on outside, and in the rooms around you very clearly. I could clearly hear conversations in adjoining rooms even though the people were speaking in moderate tones. The bank of rooms on the ground floor which face Dry Creek Road (the "front" of the property) suffer from being up against the parking lot of a gas station, and Adel's Restaurant. There was a huge amount of noise from people coming and going in their cars until well past 2 in the morning. On the second night, I bought some ear-plugs, and I was okay. Interestingly, there is zero noise from the freeway even though it's only 1000 feet from the on-ramp.
I would assume that booking a room upstairs which is in the "back" building would alleviate most of the noise issues, particularly if it was on a corner. Since the property was sold-out when I booked through Kayak.com, I did not have the option of choosing a room.
I think this property is better than Best Western Petaluma because it's closer to wineries, and traffic on 101 between Healdsburg and Santa Rosa is lighter than between Petaluma and Santa Rosa. If you love Russian River as much as I do, this motel would make an excellent home-base. I'm definitely going to stay here again, but I'll just remember to pack my ear-plugs.
Request a room upstairs, at the back of the property, preferably near a corner.
