I generally don't write reviews of our travel experiences, but I have to make an exception in the case of this hotel.
My wife and I just spent a night at Les Mars in Healdsburg, and it ranks as one of the finest properties we've visited in all of our extensive travels around the world. We generally stay in what are referred to as "luxury" hotels, and this one is definitely in that class.
From the moment you walk in the door, to the moment you leave, the service is excellent. Not a large hotel, and not a lot of staff, but extremely friendly and thoughtful.
As for the room, it has one of the best beds we've ever slept in--and apparently so many guests ask about the bedding that they have a preprinted information sheet available for you at the front desk.
The room is beautifully furnished and has every imagineable amenity, from flat screen TV to DVD player to music dock, to gas fireplace, bathrobe and slippers, and I could go on and on with the raves.
Add to that a delightful wine and cheese hour from 6-7 (either in the Library or delivered to your room), with great unique cheeses and high quality local wines (including Chalk Hill, the winery that is also apparently the current owner of the hotel), as well as a fabulous continental breakfast delivered to your room in the morning, with fresh fruit, bakery goods and other choices.
To top it all off, they arranged for a complimentary glass of champage to be served to us at the restaurant where we had already made our own dinner reservation (the nearby "Dry Creek Kitchen"--which was also very good).
It's not inexpensive, but special offers seem to appear occasionally on some internet travel websites.
Thank you so much, Nicole and Matt. We will be back.
