“Always great to return to, not so to leave.”

This was, I think, our 5th visit to Highlands. What brings us back all the way from England? The cabins are great, the owners are great, the town is great ( with plenty of bars and cafes / restaurants) the area is amazing ( especially the Armstrong reserve if you like hiking / wildlife ) and simply the way you can just chill out and relax is quite astonishing.
It really is a fabulous place to unwind and forget your real life.

We only ever spend a few days at a time here becuase of holiday schedules but there is so much to do and most of it can be done without a car ( though theres a heck of a lot to be done with the car too) check out the back woods and hills, go off the beaten track to tiny towns ,forgotten mines, stunning views to the ocean and of course dozens of winerys and tasting rooms! Top tip for food: `Cape Fear` at Duncans Mills and` Boon Eat and Drink`, in town, not cheap but goooood!

For the resort though, it`s clean and well maintained cabins have all been re-fitted recently, cosy and relaxed the breakafast is basic but good the pool area a superb place to sunbathe and swim and there is always such a friendly atmosphere.
Simply - Highlands is a great place to be!

“Recharge your batteries here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

After reading the other reviews I was amazed at the few curmudgeons who claimed it was not gay friendly. The amount of repeat business alone at the Highlands lays that claim to rest.

I've been staying there for years and have always came away refreshed, rejuvenated and with my batteries fully recharged. I often tell the Innkeepers that if I were any more relaxed I would be comatose.

Ken & Lynette's sense of humor, along with their excellent concierge skills, make your stay everything you desire it to be.

My favorite things:
Movie night with popcorn every night at 8 in the lounge.
Homemade muffins, granola and diesel coffee
The peace and quiet of the surroundings
Housedog Olive who sees every guest as an opportunity to play
Sitting in the hot tub with a light rain falling
Watching the stars thru the giant redwoods
The way people disconnect from the electronic world
Guests conversations in the reading room

I'll be back for certain!!

“Nice, but not really worth the money”

This place is nice, charming and great location 2 minutes away from the main street. Nice "living room" with TV and an OK pool area. Rooms are small cottages, quite cute and cosy but slightly old and a bit worn. However, breakfast is nothing to write home about - unless you really appreciate homemade, average granola! And for all this, you simply pay too much! End of story...

“A nice stay but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2010

The grounds, the staff, the amenities, all were what we were looking for in a clothing optional resort in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Our room was the Garden Suite just off the pool area. Bed confortable, quiet location, nice deck off the room. What we didn't like; sparse kitchen and most of all; the not-so-private bathroom. I consider a private bath as having a "door" that you can close, not a curtain.

“Beautiful place that exceeded our expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

We absolutely loved our stay at Highlands Resort and fell in love with the place on our first day. Lynette was charming, friendly and helpful. It was the perfect place to get away from the noise and clamor of the big city. The room was comfortable and clean, and we had no hassles at all. We met some nice people who were staying there at the same time as us. This is the place to go if you want to relax in a natural setting. We'll definitely go back there!
