First of all, the hotel staff were excellent and very friendly and accommodating. The owners were on vacation but the staff carried on professionally and welcoming. The rooms are clean and just what one would expect from an older, historic wooden hotel. Of course they are small but well insulated with individual, though noisy heating/AC units. The beds were firm and could be upgraded to pillow tops in the future. I would also like to see a luggage stand in the room so our suitcase could be elevated off the floor. Breakfast is decent, somewhat comparable to an extended stay offering with self-serve scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, cereal, great yogurt, bread choices, and fresh juice and coffee. We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed for 6 weeks while the owners were on vacation. We felt that although they had reasons to maintain their quality ratings, nevertheless when people book they expect the star-rated restaurant to be open for their vacation too. The alternatives in town were not impressive except for the next-door Mexican restaurant which was packed for good reason. Overall we would recommend the Hotel Charlotte for a stay when the restaurant is open for the season. I should note that we stayed here on a Groupon coupon for 2 nights which made it an excellent value.
