“Couldn't ask for more! What a pleasant surprise.”

My wife and I stayed here for several days during out honeymoon. It was an absolute gem of a place and it hurt us to leave. The recreational amenities were incredible, the bar and restaurant was our favorite hang out, and the atmosphere as a whole was just awesome. We couldn't have asked for more and intend to return for anniversary celebrations for years to come. If you're going to eat at the restaurant I recommend the burger for dinner and the B & G for breakfast.

“3rd time, good as ever”

We stayed at the Evergreen Lodge over the Christmas break, our third time staying there and our first winter trip to Yosemite. We opted for one of the newer 1-bedroom cabins with a gas stove, which worked really well to keep it cosy-it wasn't just decorative. The weather turned out to be fairly mild but I think it would still be warm even with more typical winter weather. The bed was fairly comfortable--a bit too firm for my liking. The bathroom was basic, but very clean and the shower was pretty decent. I'd definitely recommend the newer cabins vs. the very old ones, having stayed in both. It's worth the price difference. We were in the Wapama area--slightly further away from the restaurant and bar. I think the Muir cabins might have the best location, and the best chance of a view.
The food in the restaurant seemed a lot better this time around, they have all the basic options and also some pretty good vegetarian and fancier dishes. And a good wine list. Overall it's a very friendly atmosphere, and although there are quite a few cabins it feel secluded and quiet. They're adding a pool for 2012, which might change that... or not! it's very kid-friendly, lots of outdoor space for them and a good games room too, that keeps them occupied.
Hikes that we did: Cathedral lakes (a bit tough) May Lake-beautiful, Mirror Lake, Wapama Falls at Hetch Hetchy. They're all good! Watch for altitude adjustment on the hikes from the Tioga Road. And we had breakfast at the Awahnee one morning-prepare for a wait, or try reserving in advance.

Room Tip: The Muir and Sierra cabins have a great location

“You get what you pay for-and this hotel is with the price!”

All hotels in Yosemite are pricey, and this one is no exception. We stayed in a moderately priced cabin which was pristinely located in the middle of the woods. Quite, peaceful and relaxing. They have plenty to do at the lodge, and you could keep yourself occupied for days with their activities and never have to drive into Yosemite. Rafting, hiking, biking, etc are all right there. Lots of activities for the kids, and a massage for mom and dad! Would love to go again sometime.

“LOVED this place”

After a hectic two weeks travelling up the west coast travelling from city to city we were thrilled to arive at Evergreen Lodge and breath the fresh air. This place truely is an amazing escape!

We were travelling with another couple and booked a two bedroom cabin which was fantastic for what we needed. To be honest we didnt spend a huge amount of time in the cabin as we were either out and about exploring or eating delicious food and lots of wine in the taverna.

Evergreen lodge really is in the middle of nowhere so bear this in mind before you book, you only really have the option of eating in the taverna on site as there are no cooking facilities within the cabins. However, dont let this put you off. The food was absolutely fantastic with loads of choice, we felt spoilt for choice every night. The wine was also great if not a little pricey (we learnt that this was the case everywhere we went in USA......)

The shop was also fantastic and was stocked with everything you would need from clothing to snacks, toiletries and alcohol. We really found this useful.

The facilities on site are great, there is a laundry room with washing machines and tumble dryers and a building where you can go and seek advice from experts for walks and routes to take. We also found the computers with free internet really useful.

We are already planning our next trip back to Evergreen Lodge only this time we will be bringing a much bigger group with us to enjoy it!

“Good family choice away from the Valley crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

We stayed here as a family with a 7 year old child. We were booking to stay over the July 4th weekend, but it also timed with my daughter's birthday so we wanted somewhere she would enjoy. Evergreen is situated about half an hour's drive from the Valley floor (which is where a lot of the spectacular walks start and is also where the visitor information and shops are). This had advantages and disadvantages. The advantages were that you were out of the crowds (and on July 4th weekend they are HUGE) the disadvantage is you have to take your car in to the valley and parking can be tough unless you get there early.
Evergreen Lodge is one of those all included, family fun places. So if you are interested in a wilderness experience this isn't for you. Having said that though, the cabins are thoughtfully laid out so our deck faced on to woodlands and was peaceful - we even saw some wildlife wandering around. The food in the restaurant is good, and there is enough choice to suit everyone. There are also lots of laid on activities - from playing table tennis in the games room to going on an organised group cycle ride. All the activities were well supervised and run. There was a campfire every evening with SMORES (very sugary biscuit and marshmallow things you toast on a fire) and on the whole our daughter really loved the place. My husband and I are not usually in to this kind of place as we like to get away from it all, but actually rather enjoyed ourselves too. The rooms are not plush but comfortable enough. It was a bit of a squeeze with my daughter on the bed settee but we weren't spending much time in the room. Would have been nice to have had a bit of an option for self catering- even just for breakfast - so if you are not the type to want to wander up a road to the restaurant in the morning consider packing some plastic bowls and spoons. We didn't mind not being in the Valley We drove in on July 4th (when it was ironically very quiet as everyone was heading back home) and did a lovely walk called the MIST walk (up through waterfalls - a long day but options to turn back along the way). But the scenery just outside the Valley is also really good. We did a lovely walk on the upper road (sorry can't remember the name) where there was snow and we were able to have a snowball fight (something you don't do very often in Australia!). The cycling was also a pleasant change for a day.
The staff were friendly and although sometimes it felt a bit impersonal (they were very busy) there was professional attention to detail - like they gave my daughter a free icecream on her birthday and responded to our enquiries promptly and pleasantly.
So on the whole I would say this is a good place to stay if you don't mind not being in the thick of it, and you want a relaxing family break with everything taken care of.
