I don't think I've ever stayed in a Super 8 hotel, even after 50 years on the road, but when I looked at the fares for Santa Barbara hotels in general on Trip Advisor as we drove that way from L.A., ninety six bucks made a very "modest" hotel with outside room entryways look like theRitz For some reason or other I was struck by a brass plaque on the wall to the right of the desk: "This hotel is owned by Oliver Dixon" it declared; not Consolidated Everything, Inc, LLC, Ltd. etc., but a guy named Oliver Dixson. I think Mr. Dixon should teach a masters class in hotel maintenance and management at the University of California campus just down the street
Here's the short version of this opus: The bathroom is huge, spotless and everything works.
The bed was at least as comfortable as my own, the carpet was new enough and the window was clean. I didn't expect much, I guess, but here's what I got: a very clean, not unpleasant,
totaly adequate hotel room in a place up to its' hips in dough for less than a hundred bucks.
Mr. Dixon, I salute you and the ladies and gentlemen who maintain your hotel.

the smallest and barest room anywhere: a monk's cell maybe. At $153/night.
I spent less money the following night at the Marina del Rey Hotel in Marina del Rey, in a luxury ocean-view room!!!

Hotel room just adequate for two people for one night,but could become claustrophic after a while.Jon on reception very helpful and friendly.No fridge in room,Possibly available,as only there one night did not bother.

Sizzlers is at 5555 Hollister Ave had steak but not up to the usual Sizzlers standard.
Cost for 1 Queen bed for 1 night was $108.41 ( seniors rate )

The hotel as a whole is looking " tired " and in my opinion could do with a bit of a face lift. But sufficient for the one night.

We went to Santa Barbara for the UC graduation. We spent June 11 and 12 at the Super 8 in Goleta. The rooms were like other Super 8 motels, but the staff was particularly pleasant (especially Cindy) and the rooms had a "Congratulations on the Graduation" gift of candy and bottled water. The complimentary breakfast was good. They let us fill our thermos with coffee when we left. I recommend room 224 because it is large with 2 queen-size beds, a refrigerator, and space for drinks with friends later in the evening.
