“Huge disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

I grew up in Fresno so I was familiar with the location which was perfect for my stay while attending my high school reunion. The outside of the "suite" hotel looked nice, as did the reception area. The pool area was very nice, as was the atrium where a nice breakfast was served. BUT, the room was horrible. Furniture was shabby, bed and pillows so uncomfortable, sleep was iffy at best. And, everytime I came back to my room after a full day, my key would not work. I was there 5 days and had to get rekeyed 4 of those days. Very inconvenient since I was on the 2nd floor and had to then walk down to the Front Desk. The free WiFi was "spotty"..a direct quote when I inquired one evening when my laptop could not connect to the Internet. I will never stay there again and I plan on visiting my old home town every year. The place has such potential but I fear in this economy it will remain a dump.

“Mixed messages - posh reception and grounds then off to 70's Boogie Nights”

I booked this hotel online as it provided the perfect stop over for our roadtrip between San Francisco, Yosemite Park and Las Vegas.

On arrival, we were taken aback by the beauty of the reception area and hotel courtyard which has a lovely pool in the middle of a beautifully cared for garden. Stunning setting!

Hence our expectation of the room was similar. When we opened the door to our room, we were amazed to find a one-bedroom studio flat with a lounge, hall way, bathroom and large bedroom at the back. The decor however, including TV sets, curtains, carpets, bed furniture and bedding, were probably very trendy in the 70's. Nothing had changed since the 70's, and while in the shower I expected Bobby Ewing (for those who remember Dallas) to appear.

Anyway, I think the hotel is working it's way around to update their rooms.

It was Saturday night when we stayed at San Joaquin and on return to our room in the early evening, a wedding party had a wedding reception and party around the pool. We had expected some noise from the party, but as our bedroom was at the other side of the building, no noise spilled through which was a welcome surprise.

The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. They had printed out some directions for us to the local shopping centre. There we enjoyed an amazing meal at the Cheesecake Factory.

“Completely blown away!!!”

I was definitely on the fence about this hotel when reading the comments left by past guests, but something kept telling me to check it out anyway on my own. So I called the hotel and the agent was very helpfull while explaining the differences between the two types of rooms that they offerd. She sensed my reluctance and she encouraged me to drop by and take a tour. Boy am I glad that I did! Although the standard suites, a bit worn, were still awesome. very spacious and cozy. I would definitely stay in a standard suite if I needed a quick getaway with a not so gracious wallet. And then she showed me a deluxe suite which are a little more on the luxurious side, and I couldn't believe what I saw!!! Never seen any hotel like it in Fresno. All of the furniture unique and every room was different. needless to say I booked a deluxe room for my hubby and I for the night of our anniversary! They have a wonderful package deal for those types of occasions. Definitely a winner!!! Thank you for making our night that much romantic!!! No doubt in my mind that we will be returning. Next 'GIRLS NIGHT'!!! Woohoo.

“Horrible Room - Don't let the photos fool you!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

After looking at the hotel website photos the hotel looked like a great value. But once we got there it was a completely different story!
The hotel is basically an old apartment complex they have made into a hotel. The room they booked us in had plaster missing from the wall, the sheet rock wasn't finished from where they must have replaced the sliding glass door. The bedding had holes in it in 1 room and in the other there were holes in the drapes. The carpet was filthy, to the point no one walked around barefooted. The mattress were like sleeping on boards, worst night sleep of my life.
We were thankful we only had to stay one night. I can't believe the management would allow a room to be booked when it was in that condition.
We will never stay there again nor recommend the hotel to anyone we know!

“Nice room for a great price - breakfast was a bonus!”

We were looking for a comfortable place to stay on our driving vacation. We wanted a safe neighborhood in a relatively clean room for a great price. We found that at the San Joaquin.

The hotel location was conveniently located for us and in a safe and quiet neighborhood. Service was excellent and the staff was helpful. The grounds were pretty with lots of plants, trees and art. The pool was sparkling, though not heated. The spa was not working which was disappointing.

The room itself was spacious with a microwave and refrigerator in one room with a TV and sofa. The coffee provided with the in room coffee pot was great! The bedroom good sized and comfortable. The room and furnishings were not modern, but it was certainly functional and we enjoyed our 2 night stay.

As an added bonus, the complimentary continental breakfast was very nice. Fresh orange juice, bagels, pastries, cold cereal and more.
