Hyatt Place is the budget suite operation that operates one level below Hyatt's Summerfield Suites line. I've stayed at the Hyatt Place Fremont a number of times over the last two years. Overall I've found the facilities and the service a tremendous value for the money. As in all Hyatt Places I've ever visited (even in downtown locations), parking is free.
Obviously geared to weekday business travelers to the Silicon Valley, this particular Hyatt Place benefits from some vacation and group trade over the weekends, taking advantage of lower rates that make the place a particular bargain. When the Hyatt Place mark was new, staff would meticulously walk all customers through all the particulars of what to expect staying in the hotel. Over time, the routine seems to have been reduced to its bare essentials and is now about as perfunctory as at most chain hotels. That's fine with regular customers of this line, since all Hyatt Places run on similar, if not identical, routines. But if you've never been to one before, ask for the whole rundown on the place, including the pool the fitness center, the breakfast hours and the room service.
Hotel staffers, who are very young, do some of everything, from front desk reception and check-out to bar and counter service, breakfast room duty, 24-hour food preparation, lobby-tidying, and grounds clean-up. Apparently they learn the job by learning the whole house, which seems to me a terrific way to cultivate knowledgeable, competent staff. But, as at many Hyatt Places, staffing at the Fremont hotel is sparse after 11 p.m. or thereabouts, with perhaps only one staffer in charge of the whole operation. Be prepared to use the front-door intercom to get into the building to register, with a possible wait of a few minutes if the lone staffer in charge happens to be in the kitchen heating somebody's room service order. Once you have your key, either from the desk or from one of the now lobby-ubiquitous check-in check-out kiosks, you're pretty much set.
I was sorry to read of one reviewer's experience of having left clothes in the closet on check-out, and on inquiring, being told nothing had been found. With some rare exceptions for which I've been grateful, it's been pretty much my experience that in the U.S., whatever you leave behind in a hotel room, you can consider gone. One good thing about the Hyatt Place rooms is that they're so cleanly and simply laid out, its easy to make sure you leave with what you brought.
