We took a bike trip up from wine country and were able to get a priceline-bid room here for pretty cheap! Seemed clean enough, fan/heater was a bit noisy, and the wifi connection was pretty slow. Very utilitarian room, but we had a fridge and coffeemaker for the price, so we were good. With my severe allergy to fabric softener though, I was so sorry I opted to save space in the bike bags and not bring along my customary traveling`just-in-case towel. I had to dry off from my shower with a rewashed/wrung out washcloth and the hair dryer! That and the usual summer fog notwithstanding, we had an enjoyable stay. The couple at the front desk (somebody's grandparents, I suspect) were very nice and helpful; allowed us to park our big Kawasaki in their own parking space to have it out of the falling fog overnight. We left one of the bags on, empty, and it was still there in the morning. Had a nice walk down to Glass Beach and climbed around the little coves.
We didn't try the adjacent restaurant, instead enjoyed a fabulous breakfast at Egghead's, coffee and pastries at the Headland's coffeehouse, checked out the Tattoo museum (cool), later a nice stop in Booneville at Anderson Valley brewery on the way back south. They have a great new location (new to me) outside of town, with a large outdoor area and a beer-in-hand frisbee golf course. And btw, to all our other bike-riding friends, that Comptche-Ukiah road out of Mendocino is one of the nicest rides we've found in this state. Pavement is GREAT, beautiful scenery, nice curves all the way. Sweet.
