The Farmhouse Inn is warmth, style, elegance, and beauty incarnate.
After a grueling year and a cross-country move, my husband and I decided at the last minute to spend three days over Christmas in CA Wine Country. We wanted to eat some great food, drink some great wine, bathe in a great tub, and above all relax in comfortable, unpretentious style. Our hopes were exceeded from the first call to make the reservation.
STAFF: Not only was the staff professional and solicitous to our desires, their concierge services were top notch: they found a great package deal for us; the made recommendations about the room we would stay in based on specific interest and aesthetic, as well as recommended specific vineyards to visit (free tastings!); they made dining reservations at the already booked Madrona Manor for Christmas night; and they gave us a late check out because I was feeling ill the morning we were meant to leave.
ROOMS & AMENITIES: We stayed in the Barn (Room #17). The room is awash with rustic whites, blending natural elements with modern amenities and fixtures; for instance, a dual-sided indoor/outdoor gas fireplace—accessible from both the bedroom and the private deck; radiant flooring in the bath and entrance, a soaking tub overlooking the deck and wood beyond, and dimmer switches on all the lights. Water pressure was perfect in both the tub and the shower. Fast hot water. Double sinks, separate toilet with pocket barn door. Nice sitting area. Great bed. VERY private.
FOOD/RESTAURANT: We ate dinner at the Farmhouse on Christmas Eve and the Madrona Manor (FYI a Michelin Star restaurant) on Christmas Day. Both were wonderful, but honestly, the Farmhouse was better; more varied, more interesting, more fun—a sophisticated twist on dishes we all know and love. Breakfast was also fantastic! Great service! Wonderful wine pairings.
FUN EXTRAS: In the office, they have a “spa” buffet, equipped with various free bath salts and handmade soap which you can cut yourself. We didn’t get to the spa, but it looked fantastic.
If you're looking for a stuffy, corporate hotel where monotonous "design" rules the day, don't go here. If you're looking for a place that somehow allows you to relax and come alive all at the same time, try the Farmhouse.
Room Tip: Barn Rooms are seriously nice, most private and quiet. The rooms in the main house are nice, but the...
