Unlike other small towns we visited during our road trip across the USA Ferndale had a distinctive feel of all year round community. Lovely shops, cafes and very friendly people. Staying in The Victorian Inn was like stepping back into 'old America'. Loved the room - decorated in deep red with a relaxing seat in the big bay window. Ate dinner both nights of our stay (why go anywhere else when the food on the first night was excellent!). There was ample choice for breakfast. Staff whether on front desk or in the restaurant were welcoming, polite and happy to engage in conversation. Finally, the owner made a point of coming to our table during dinner to welcome us and to thank us for choosing to stay in his hotel. Old fashioned hospitality at it's best!

Ferndale is just North of the Avenue of the Giants, near Eureka, CA, about 5 miles west of the freeway. Ferndale is a small, quaint and historic town. The Victorian Inn is quite a piece of architectural work. It is over 100 years old and very beautiful. We met the owners, who are warm and welcoming. The building was incredibly well-built at the time by one of the local movers and shakers. The rooms are comfortable, the price reasonable and the restaurant was very good. We ate in the bar as the fare was a bit more casual. Our waitress and bartender, was Nikki, cute as a bug's ear, vivacious and as welcoming as anyone I have ever met. My wife and I offered to adopt her.

Our stay at the Victorian Inn was great and we'll be returning next time we head up the Coast.

Ferndale is a sweet little town and this Inn is the perfect, cozy place to use as homebase. The Inn is beautifully maintained! The rooms are thoughtfully decorated with lovely touches like a soundscape system, beautiful linens, chocolates on the night table, etc. The bar and the restaurant are very pleasant spaces and the complimentary breakfast is generous and tasty. Kudos also to the gentlemen at the front desk - they set the tone and established a genteel and courteous mood that will bring us back to the Victorian Inn again!

Loved our stay at the Victorian Inn. What a great establishment. It really deserves the consistent outstanding reviews. We stayed in the Barnaby Room that was a beautiful room. The room was well maintained and harkened back to an earlier time. Loved the lobby, the interior hallways and the second floor sitting room. Felt like we were staying in a very special setting. Loved the location that was right downtown and so close to the shopping. Wish we lived closer so we could come back more often. The breakfast was outstanding and the dining area is also a beautiful setting. The owner came over to our table to chat and see how we enjoying ourselves. (I especially like the owner responses to the few negative reviews in TA never putting down the reviewer.) His care is reflected by all the staff which was very attentiveand friendly. Our only complain was the queen size beds. Hard to adjust to when you are used to a king. Also, the stairs could be a bit of a challenge for the impaired. Overal, one of our favorite all time B&B stays!
