If you want to see as much of LA County as possible, this would be a good jumping off point.
Nothing special, but nothing terrible. It's biggest crime is that it is boring. I've read many reviews on TripAdvisor where people ding the hotel because the cab rides to where they wanted to go were expensive. Duh. Rent a car. Any Los Angeles travel guide worth anything at all will tell you that you need a car to get around Los Angeles.
Now that you have your rental car booked, this is a great location. #1 it is safe. It is an hour from Long Beach Aquarium and Disneyland to the South, but also an hour, more or less, to Magic Mountain, LA Zoo, Griffith Park, or Hollywood to the North, Northeast. The LA Zoo is located within Griffith Park, and there you can find hiking and horse back riding. Venice Beach is less than half an hour North, which is good for people watching or roller skating. Manhattan Beach and El Segundo Beach are about 5 minutes away. Just South of Manhattan Beach are other nice beaches, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach, all of which are nice for bike riding, swimming, and surfing.
If you absolutely do not want to rent a car, then find an all inclusive resort and don't do any sight seeing. This hotel is not an all inclusive resort. It is a clean hotel in a safe neighborhood that it very conveniently located near LAX without feeling like you are near an airport.
Also, if you don't like driving, then L.A. is not the best vacation spot for you. You can stay at this hotel and drive very little if you want to stay at the beaches only, but you still need a car.
There are many good restaurants, a golf course and beautiful beaches nearby. Try Fleming's Steakhouse, The Veggie Grill, The Lakes Golf Course, and Manhattan Beach for laying out alongside the beautiful people. Each of the piers have their own personality and are worth visiting: Venice, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach. The Double H Club in the nearby Hacienda Hotel offers dance lessons and dancing almost every night of the week, although it is mostly an older crowd. It is casual and not intimidating. Very good for beginners. The Hacienda doesn't get very great reviews. It is older and not as nice or clean as the Courtyard. The Hermosa Promenade has the younger, hip bar scene. The Grove is a popular nearby shopping center. Toyota Sports Center is an ice skating rink a few minutes away from the hotel and El Segundo also has a skate park and community pool.
Of course, this is an ideal spot for a quiet layover.
