We stay at the Hyatt Suites frequently, because our granddaughter lives nearby. When it was the Woodfin, we knew we could count on the little extras that made us choose this hotel every time. Now that it’s become a Hyatt, we see these little things beginning to disappear.
Our two grown children travelled with us. We need three beds because they (boy and girl) obviously don’t want to share a bed. The Woodfin always offered a comfortable rollaway, so all we needed was a one bedroom suite. The Hyatt no longer offers a rollaway. This meant we needed two rooms this time, at a much greater expense.
Cutbacks are evident in the breakfast room. There is a reduction in the breakfast buffet, including removal of the waffle maker, which is always a hit with children. The breakfast room was chaos for our two day stay. The staff, while making every effort to keep up, was greatly overwhelmed. Plates and forks ran out. Coffee ran out. Food ran out. Tables went without cleaning. The staff did their best, but they were unable to keep up. Those in a hurry to eat were out of luck. More breakfast room help is needed. Management could look at bookings and anticipate.
In our electronic world, we’re always amazed when rooms lack sufficient electrical outlets to recharge our devices. Several plugs in our room were so worn, ours charger would not stay plugged in. There was no plug in the “kitchen” area to plug in the coffee maker.
The television reception was pathetic. An assortment of a few snowy channels and few more in HD. One room had no remote control or flat screen television.
The hotel staff continues to be outstanding. The rooms are clean, the beds very comfortable, and the property is generally well maintained. My fear is, that now that the Hyatt accountants are in control, the little things that set this hotel apart from the others will, unfortunately, disappear.
