“Agree with Underwelming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed for two weekend nights in February 2012, our second stay in last couple of years. Rooms are clean, restaurant food above average, service fine too. Breakfast buffet a little expensive at $17.50 but food quality was good and omelet chef was great. Service was good too. On the downside, I agree parking garage was awkward, and at $21 per night? There is plenty of parking across the street where the former Macaroni Grill sits abandoned. The rooms have only one king bed and pullout couch. Our couch had no bedding and we had to call down for blankets. And what's with charging $12.95 a day for internet? Come on Mariott, it's 2012 already. I can get free internet at McDonalds for heaven's sake.

Room Tip: Rooms facing rear of property have nice view of courtyard, pool and natural pond with grassy areas a...

“Underwhelming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

So much potential, so underwhelming. With all suites and South Coast Plaza right next door, it should have been a match made in heaven. But it was headed for the divorce court right from the start. Struggling to find a park in the lot, then finding there’s no elevator and dragging bags down narrow grey concrete stairs. And paying the privilege?

Check in was chaotic with an entire flight crew checking either in or out at the time. This seems to be a flight crew hotel, as this wasn't the first time the front desk was overwhelmed by airline uniforms. Finally got to the room which was about the size of a regular hotel room cut in two. It’s almost as if they designed the hotel thinking ‘how can we market our hotel as suites without the extra square footage?’ The decor and fittings were actually quite nice – standard Marriott fare. The bed was another story. The mattress seemed so soft which might be to some people’s liking. Just not mine. Housekeeping was the usual excellent Marriott standard.

I didn’t explore the restaurants or the other facilities, but there are much better hotel options in the area.

Perhaps this hotel and I were never meant to be.

“Parking problems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

$21 to park in a garage with no elevator...if you have heavy luggage, plan to stop at the lobby first or plan on a hernia lugging it down or up the stairs. Then, to add to the fun, two nights in a row now the garage has been full and we had to park in te employee of te month spot...sorry employee of the month!

When I spoke to front desk, they apologized and credited the parking chare but it didn't fix not having enough parking...

“Small in size, but not small in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We stayed two nights for a week-end get-away. The hotel is not as large as the other Mariotts we have stayed at but we enjoyed it's more intimate feeling. The breakfast was fresh and they had a great variety of food. The service at the restaurant was top-notch. Many restaurants and shops; including South Coast Plaza are just around the corner. So for those wanting to shop and eat; this hotel is centrally located and minutes from Santa Ana Airport (courtesy shuttle available)

“Seriously? $12 for wireless internet?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

It is 2011. I just called the desk to inquire about the WiFi code (I presumed they forgot to write it on the key folio at check in). Imagine my surprise that my only option is to pay $12 (or 12.50 or 12.95, but why quibble...). I did try to get the desk clerk to waive the (ridiculous) fee.

I am at a Marriott. I am a preferred program member. I am paying $200/night (give or take, with taxes it's definitely more). This is 2011, not the 90s when hotels could get away with this sort of thing. So, I'm using the 1st 15 minutes of my $12 worth of internet to shout of Marriott's boorish behavior in the "public square."

I will not return to this property and plan to relocate to a nearby hotel for the remaining two days of my trip.
