Spent 3-day Veterans holiday weekend in superior king class accommodation. If you're looking for a hotel feel, or even a boutique inn experience with some cache, this is probably not going to do it for you. But if you have a car and want free parking, the convenience of nearby shopping and dining, and direct freeway access, this is worth a play at a reasonable price point.
Room size was decent, but seemed even larger as our second floor location afforded a cathedral ceiling, vertically striped wall coverings, and a triple window bank. Duradek balcony was nice bonus and good size with two chairs at a table, looking out over a small pond. There was some highway noise but it was unobtrusive as we noshed and had cocktails there at sunset. There is also a coffee maker and small refrigerator in the room.
My overall rating would have been slightly higher but each notable attribute had a noticeable negative tradeoff.....for example:
The bedding was pretty comfortable, but the pillows were awful.....and there were only two.
The fan coil unit was quieter than most, but the wall thermostat had no correlation to setting the unit.....at least I couldn't figure it out and I am a mechanical engineer.
The 32" TV was a flat screen, but at least half the channels had horrendous reception.
Self-Parking is available motor-lodge style right near your unit, but there is no elevator so you have to shlep luggage up two flights of steps....and the wooden catwalks are creaky.
Bathroom has been updated, but very cramped with little surface area for toiletries.
Staff is pleasant, but housekeeping runs very late.....we had our room serviced after 4PM one day and if we didn't call the desk, I'm sure it would have been missed. Also we watched as the room attendants threw the bedspread on the not-so-clean rug, then put it back after making the bed. Moreover, I always tip well every day of the stay so I was extremely disappointed to see this. I realize many hotel room attendants likely do the same, but knowing I could see them from the balcony, one would think they would have used the chair or table.
Bottom-line.....we got a nitely tarriff that worked out to less than $150, which is a reasonable price point for Marin County. But the demerits listed above would likely make me choose another hotel option even at a cost premium.
TIP: there is a restaurant on-site but it has goofy breakfast hours....try the Cafe Corte Madera instead about 2 miles away up the hill.
