I stayed here based on the tripadvisor reviews (many were accurate). The staff was excellent, particularly Gloria and the men who staffed the front desk. Upon arriving a bellman helped me to the room. When we walked in the room in was hot, smelly, very musty. He tried to open the windows, only a few would open. The bathroom window could open (no screen) but could not be closed and the curtain was caked in black dirt (mold?) around the edges. The bathtub drain did not work well. It was disgusting to go behind the bedside table to try to plug in my laptop. The internet worked day one but not day two. The bed was very soft, uncomfortable. I was able to switch to another room the following day. The room was nicer, cleaner, internet did not work but the staff was able to reset it. The TV did not work and the staff was unable to fix it. The Pool is NOT heated. There were guests at the pool joking around about how the hotel advertises a HEATED pool. Breakfast was about the same as what you would get at a motel contintental breakfast (not very fresh). All around I was VERY VERY VERY disappointed. I really had high hopes!!

  • Liked — staff was great, great location, great potential IF problems are addressed
  • Disliked — definitely not worth the price, rooms need deep cleaning, small things need to be fixed

We went to Coronado for a long weekend and debated between the Hotel Del and the Glorietta Bay Inn. We are SO glad that we picked the Mansion at the Glorietta Bay Inn. The views of the bay were gorgeous and the rooms had so much charm (our room was also very comfortable and very clean). We went across the street to have drinks at the Hotel Del and while it is beautiful, it's so huge and lacks the intimacy that we loved at the Glorietta Bay Inn. We loved our balcony and enjoying breakfast out there every morning. The basket of treats delivered to our room each day was PERFECT. Another plus was the warm cookies and milk each night. YUM.

In terms of the location, the hotel is walking distance from all the great shops and restaurants in downtown Coronado.

I highly recommend the Glorietta Bay Inn!

We spent the 22nd and 23rd of February in the Sunset Room in the mansion part of the Inn. There are two parts to the property the Mansion, which is the Spreckels Mansion and the attached build on portion which is the Inn portion. The Mansion was built by Mr. Spreckels of the Spreckels sugar family. The Sunset room is part of the mansion and although a small room (I believe it was one of the rooms used by Mr. Speckels grandchildren, it had great view from two windows of the bay and it has it's own patio with a hanging swing that two can sit on the watch the sunset. The bed was extremely comfortable with a down comforter. Staying in the mansion is awesome because you really feel like you have stepped back in time. You go up an exquisite marble staircase to the 2nd floor where there is beautiful dark wood. The room itself had all the modern amenities including a flat screen TV, coffee maker, small refrigerator and cable but had the feeling that you were in the mansion. The service was wonderful with the maids turning back the beds in the early evening and leaving wonderful chocolate chip cookies in our room and wonderful chocolates. I ran in to one of the maids in the hall and she gave me some extra chocolates!!!! There is a great continental breakfast which if you stay in the mansion they will deliver to your room at a time of your choosing. Available items included yogurt, fruit, bagels with cream cheese, hardboiled eggs, oatmeal, sweet rolls (everything you could want for breakfast) and this is included in the price. The front desk service was great- they are very hospitable and will help you with making reservations and other suggestions about where to visit. We were able to buy tickets for the San Diego Trolley from the front desk and caught the trolley about two blocks up the street from the hotel the trolley takes you to approx 8 stops all over San Diego including: the Zoo, Balboa Park, Old Town, the marina, Seaport Village, Horton Plaza and the Gas Lamp District. Even though I have been to San Diego many times this was great idea because we were able to see so much in a day and not have to move the car and worry about parking. You can get on and off the tram where you want and reboard when you want to go to the next stop. The famous Del Coronado is across the street and while it is on the water we really wondered how many of the room face the water. The Del is huge and people swarming everywhere and while it is a beautiful hotel the masses of people wandering around made us both rather claustrophobic. I can only imagine what a room with a view costs there????? We were so happy and pleased after our tour of the Del to come back to the Glorietta Bay Inn with its peace and quiet. Even if you are visiting Coroado in the summer I highly reccomend you avoid the Del and stay at the Glorietta Bay Inn because you literally walk across the street and down a bit and are at the beach. I also noticed at the Del that parking was $23 a day while only $10 at the Glorietta Bay. We looked in one of the Glorietta Inn rooms that was not part of the mansion and it was clean well furnished and very comfortable. This is the place to stay in Coronado and the best deal in town!!!

We have just returned home from a 10 day stay at the Glorietta Bay Inn. We had a wonderful time there and kudos go to the staff for their friendly, helpful attitudes. From the time we made our reservations, to checkin, throughout our stay and until we finally had to head home, everyone was wonderful. We were pleasantly surprised on our arrival to find that we had been upgraded to a mansion room. It was very nice and the turndown service with warm chocolate chip cookies, milk and chocolates on my pillow each night was heavenly. Also, the lemonade set out in the afternoon and the citrus water at the pool were very thoughtful touches. I especially liked all the fresh flowers around and the orchids which were placed around the mansion (and in our room) were glorious. Breakfast in bed, large fluffy robes and bath towels, morning newspaper..... the staff have thought of everything to make you feel pampered. The weather was warm while we were in Coronado but nothing compares to the warm smiles of the staff, always ready to help in arranging the day's activities or recommending a restaurant for dinner. I would highly recommend the Glorietta Bay Inn to anyone looking for excellent service. Its location is just a short walk from the Coronado beach and it is far more peaceful than the noisy chaos at the Del.

Can't wait to return.

Earlier this month, my husband and I spent our anniversary in San Diego. We stayed in LaJolla, Coronado, and on the water near Seaport Harbor (I think that is what it is called). For our Coronado leg, we stayed at the Mansion at Glorietta Bay Inn. We could not have made a better choice. The location was perfect (right across from Hotel Del) and it was quiet in the mansion.

We stayed in the Sunset Room for three nights. That was the only room available when we booked that had an outside balcony, so we took it. The room is very small, but comfortable. The bed was divine! Slept better than I had in months. Before we left, we peeked in the other rooms that were open and it looks like most of the other rooms were much larger.

The balcony had a swing (loved that!) and an iron table with two chairs. Although I'm not sure why it's called the Sunset Room when we couldn't see the sun set, it would have been behind us. Before they added on the attached wing of regular hotel-like rooms, the balcony would have been stand alone instead of viewing the roof of the attached building. It's a shame that it was added on.

Also when you stay in the mansion, your breakfast is delivered to your room. That was excellent - every morning we had breakfast on the balcony.

Supposedly you get BIG chocolate chip cookies and milk every night too, but we received cookies two of the three nights but no milk. Cookies were yummy!

The mansion is beautiful and you tend to get spoiled by their excellent and personal service. We will definitely be back. But next time we want to reserve the Spreckels Suite, which has a large deck and is a very big room.

Parking on their lot is the lowest we paid in all of San Diego.

The concierge is the best I have ever experienced. Their customer care team are extremely friendly and helpful, while being professional at the same time. They are not intrusive, but do greet you every time you walk by. They gave us some great restaurant suggestions, made reservations for us, plus provided a card for a free appetizer!

If you want a mansion room, make sure you book early. We booked in March for our August trip and did not receive our choice of mansion rooms. Next time we will!

  • Liked — The accommodations, location, and employees. Top notch all the way!
  • Disliked — The regular rooms as part of the property took away some of the elegance of staying at the mansion.
