“Sometimes less is more.”

This motel is one of the best I have ever been to. The manager and staff are small town friendly with a big heart. Their kindness knows no limit. The environmentally friendly owners have had solar panels installed on a large portion of the roof, providing electricity to the motel. The rooms are very clean. The maids are friendly and helpful. The porch and parking lot are warmly light and there is additional parking in the rear that could fit four to five R.V.'s or tractor trailers. Yes it's close to the highway and the vehicles can be heard sometimes but there are double pane windows that keep most of the noise out and very comfortable beds that are firm but feel like your sleeping on a clould. The two things I had a hard time with at first were that there are no phones or microwave ovens in the room. There is a fridgerator and coffeemaker, television/dvd combo. This has come to be a joy.The resturaunt is only a hundred feet away and the supermarket is twice that in the mall across the street. Along with a Taco bell and a pizza pace and also a burger joint. There's a Starbucks and a drive thur breakfest and coffee place. All within two hundred feet, you can't beat that. Unless you want to stay at the six, like this other reviewer did( lildorkfish1) and get bed bugs(lice) and pay twenty dollars less and drive twenty miles more. And most of those motels, like most motels are next to the highway and you can hear the traffic. The rates seem flexable depending on the time of the year and occupency.

Room Tip: Only stayed in room 19.

“One week of quietness.”

I want to start by totally disagreeing with that one bad review, but thats why I served my country, for freedom of expression. I spent a week here, while attending a course here in Colfax. Not knowing what to expect, I did get what I had hoped for. The ability to study in a calm quiet place. I've experienced a wide variety of experiences in many different motels, hotels and resorts throughout the country and across the world. For the place and setting, I had a great experience. The management and personnel were great. The rooms were very clean, no smell of smoke. Bathrooms were clean, well maintained and the staff was on top of anything that I needed taken care of. I SLEPT LIKE A ROCK! and I'm a very lite sleeper. I will come again if I'm passing through on my way to Reno or just as a get away.

Room Tip: Just close the bathroom door.:)

“Loud loud loud!!!!! Avoid this place!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2010

We found two reviews about this place & all said good things but I think that the owners or friends wrote those reviews. This motel sits right next to I80 & you can hear every single vehicle that drives on the interstate, especially the semis. They claim that the rooms are recently remodeled but they didn't bother to invest in windows to attempt to block out the noise. If you are an extremely sound sleeper then this place is for you.

Prices on website are incorrect. There is only one room for the low price on their website & it is single bed. Everything else is $70+ a night.

Heat was not turned on in room & even when turned up to max it still took 3 hours for the room to warm up. There was mold growing on the ceiling in the bathroom. This place is a total joke. We ended up staying at the Motel 6 in Auburn the next night for 20 bucks cheaper and it was much more quite.

Definitely avoid this motel if you can, just drive the extra 20 miles to Auburn and stay there instead.

“Quaint, Quiet, Friendly”

My Partner and I have stayed at this motel many times throughout the years as we enjoy traveling from Sacramento to Reno on weekend getaways. Stopping in the small town of Colfax is one of our highlights and something we look forward to once or twice a year.

Over the years we have noticed a tremendous change in the motel that, from what I understand, can be attributed to new ownership. The changes include a complete remodel of all the rooms, beautiful new furniture and beautiful landscaping. They've even added refrigerators and coffee makers, which really pleased us!

The best part about our trips is being able to see the motel's manager, Juice, whom we've come to know on a first name basis. Since our first trip we have stayed in room 18, which is all the way at the end of the "L," furthest from the freeway. From what I understand though, not many people have ever complained about freeway noise. The evenings are the nicest because you can sit out on the wrap around deck and enjoy the sights and sounds of the area. The new landscaping and fresh potted flowers are a wonderful addition.

For dinner you can either walk to some fast food restaurants in the area, drive into the quaint downtown district, or take a short drive to a great Italian restaurant, Giovannis. This restaurant is located on Hwy 174 and Juice can point you in the right direction.
